Frode Kyvåg stays in BSKThe Norwegian team Bækkelaget is back to normal. After much pressure
from players and sponsors, the old coach is back where he belongs. And
so are the players, who threatened to leave in case a new trainer was
employed. Frode Kyvåg fired - Anja will leave BSKThe Norwegian team Bækkelaget is in uproar. After 25 years, the
successful coach has been fired, with the claim that he could not take
the working pressure. It was a surprise to everyone - not least to Kyvåg
himself. The Danish player Anja Andersen and the rest of the team feel
betrayed and support their coach. If he is not reinstated in his job,
Anja and many other players will leave, among them the South Korean player
Hong Jeong-ho. Anja Andersen is back on the national teamWe all have hoped for this decision to be taken, ever since Anja declared,
that she wanted a break from the national team and "might not ever come
back again". But so she did! She had plans about going to Spain and end
her career in the sun, but changed her mind. She will stay in Norway at
Bækkelaget and win what is left to win with that team. But she is
back in Denmark at the national team, where she will have a leading role
in building up the new young players and thus turn the sinking ship on
the right course.
Malene Andersen resigns from the national teamMalene Andersen no longer feels like being the eternal substitute of
Anette Hoffman. It is her impression, that the trainer never gives her
much of a chance to prove her value on the court. She would rather concentrate
on her club and has announced her resignation from the national team.
Anja sues the Norwegian Handball Federation and winsAnja Andersen and her club has sued the Norwegian Handball federation.
The result is 45.000 kr. plus an apology. The money Anja has donated to
the Salvation Army for the sake of a good cause. The reason for this can
be read in the official handball magazine published by NHF. In the January
issue the readers could take part in "The big Anja test" with questions
like: "Have you ever hit or kicked someone?", "Have you tried shoplifting?"
and "Have you ever lied to your parents?". 13-15 right answers to this
and Anja would be proud of you, the test concluded. This insulting quizz
is incomprehensible untill you learn who is behind the publication of
the magazine; the former referee Terje Anthonsen, with whom Anja have
had many clashes. See earlier in the archive. He has now been removed
as editor of the magazine.
Anja Andersen's birthday presentOn Monday the 15/2 Anja Andersen turned thirty. Her best present was the fullfillment of one of her big dreams: to win the Norwegian Championship with her team Baekkelaget, for which she plays professionally. They won 25-21 over Larvik, who also has a Dane on the team, namely Lene Rantala as goalie. Anja managed to get the yellow card twice. Once for pointing at the big screen showing a repetition of an incident, where she was not content with the referee's decision and another card for demonstratively kissing the floor at the spot where the incident had taken place. The referees have no sense of humour, was her response.
World Championship 99Denmark will host several group matches at the World Championship 1999,
but not any semi-finals or the finals. The arrangement has been made with
the Norwegian Handball Federation. The five first matches of ours will
be played in Kolding and when we qualify further, the 1/8 final will be
played "somewhere in Jutland". However, Norway will still host most of
the matches. The World Championship for Women will take place between
28. November and 12. December 1999.
Tonje Kjærgaard elected second best player of the yearLast year, Anja Andersen was elected best player of the year by the International Handball Federation's magazine "World Handball Magazine". This year, another Danish player was up for nomination, namely Tonje Kjærgaard. Unfortunately, she only got a second place. We know it is unfair - especially as the winner comes from our main "competitor", the Norwegian team. Her name is Trine Haltvik and she got 4303 votes against Tonje's 3894. Number three was Ausra Fridrikas from Austria with 2819 votes.
