It was a black day for the Red & Whites on Saturday. The combined loss of both teams was a dark, dark 14-6. This even after each team had manages to craft two goal leads. Taking a while to comes to terms with reporting on the matches, we will first turn to Barnies HQ news. The big news this week is the resignation of team doctor Gareth Thomas. "It's time I moved on to leaner pastures." Apparently he's been telling a number of players to lose weight for some time. Dr Thomas verified the rumours that he was leaving because he is disappointed with the way things have been going. "I started the work because I have an interest in sports medicine. I think I need to move elsewhere as my work mostly entails aged care rather than [sports medicine]." "There are certainly elements of the sprains and strains that I am looking for but rather too much of the arthritis and Alzheimer's for it to be right. I'd prefer to help them recover from injuries sustained on the field not from putting the rubbish out." "It's a sad day for us " said veteran midfielder Chris Jacobs. "Gareth's been around for some time and given us the confidence to get on the field. He was able to help us when we'd forget which way we were supposed to run or what our team's name is. He even had a plan to put names on our shirts so we'd never forget them." Barnies Ottershaw in the B Division took on the lads from Orange Strikers. Strikers have become a bogey team for Ottershaw and yet again, a game they were looking to win was not as easy as it seemed. At 3-1 after strikes from Dan Kennedy, 'Rooster' Haydon and an own goal neatly put away by Strikers, the march to victory looked a formality. Strikers have never been big on formality and each goal they pulled back gave them more and more confidence. They started to run harder and those weary legs could not turn back the clock or the tide. Kennedy did manage another goal late in the game to give him his first double for some time. A well deserved victory to Strikers and Ottershaw will clearly have to find ways of getting past them when they meet again. "Et tu, Brut?" Close enough to "8-2 Barnies" for United to not be happy in their local derby against Waratahs at Stadium Barnstoneworth. They could not even manage the 8-1 scoreline that would have enabled the Barnie Army to go home and trash their houses in the sure knowledge that they were fulfilling a long standing Barnies tradition. With houses in tact but sanity shattered the Barnie Army left the ground after United squandered a 2 goal lead thanks to a brace of goals to Damian Priest. Waratahs have not managed the results they were expecting this year and once they got on top of Barnies they thrilled in the rush of goals they put away. With only one point from the last three weeks Barnstoneworth are hoping something will turn their fortunes around. Thomas's departure will not help the club but there are plans to recruit heavily. It is hoped the $22.24 available to spend will attract the big names to the club. The chequebook is open and the Army holds it's breath. If you have a comment about the report the why not put it in the Guestbook
