Barnstoneworth Ottershaw v Kinross 3rd XI
Stadium Banstoneworth, May 31st, 2003

God is in Heaven and all is right with the world. Some may say that this goes a little too far but the Barnie Army are certainly happy that Barnstoneworth Ottershaw have won again at Stadium Barnstoneworth. The fortress was toppled last week for the first time in 18 months so it was nice to see the losing streak only lasted one week. Ottershaw overcame the vigorous students of Kinross 3rds by 5-1.

Word also has it that Richard Evans, coaching guru of the Central West feels more confident in his commission to turn around the fortunes of the once mighty Barnstoneworth. Rumour has it that a loss this week would have seen the end of his contract and his career in ruins.

"I was about to come out of the dugout and kick their backsides when they let them get back to 2-1", said a relieved Evans. As it was they came out on fire in the second half after an Evans outburst saw the need for renovations in the dressing rooms. "I just get so passionate about Barnies" was Evans feeble excuse.

Tim Johnson, who is just starting his career, is trying to find his spot on the team. This week he started from the backline and managed something he hasn't been able to do from further upfield. He scored a scintillating goal from the edge of the box. The beautiful strike found the top left corner of the net and was as good a finish as has been seen for some time.

The Red & Whites certainly controlled the game, taking it wide at times. At others going straight up the middle. For all the dominance they only managed another goal before half-time by Steve Adams who had earlier been denied by the linesman's flag.

The goal that brought Evans to his feet came about when "Little Tim" Johnson, with newfound confidence after his goal, tried to be fancy at the back only to be robbed and bring down the thief in the area. The ensuing penalty was clinically put away and the difference was only one at half-time.

Barnies struck early in the second half when Powell moved up front to intimidate the opposition. Through this intimidation, or perhaps distraction by laughter, he managed a left footer that got past the keeper.

Drew Haydon, in only his second game slotted one in some time later and it was just reward for strong work on the ball and hard running displayed throughout the match.

Mal Key has been looking for redemption for his mistake last week and has claimed credit for forcing a Kinross own goal late in the game. His sheer will is believed to be responsible but whether he has been forgiven is not yet decided. The Barnie Army is more fickle than that.

The Barnie Army was invigorated by the return of Brenda Gordon this week. With his customary runs from back to front and charges across the field he was a welcome sight and the team quickly adapted to his free range approach to positional play.

Barnstoneworth United had a bye this week and it was good to see the support from a significant number of United players. Matt Healey was also in the stands espousing the significance of the number zero. "It's a conceptual thing and comes in very handy in physics and so many other areas of life."

Ottershaw now move back into the top half of the table and look forward to the next two weeks at the Stadium to consolidate themselves. The goals are flowing and a good time is being had by just about all.
