  • SSgt Shawn K Wood: RAF Alconbury, (Egress Lak 226-5295/2269) 1988-91. I was on the team that went to RAF Bentwaters (Crooked Creek as it is also Known) & Took the 509th and 511th Fighter Squadrons to RAF Alconbury. Curently at RAF Lakenheath and have been down that way a few times. It is nothing like it use to be. 3/2/00

  • John Wooden: Greenfield, WI. RAF Bentwaters, Jul 1970-Jul 1973, 2164 Comm Sq, ATC-Tower. Many great memories. Riding horses, racing around the roads in little Austin Sprite-seeing the beautiful country side. Making great friends that we still are in contact with 30 years later. Getting to know the English people & marrying one before returning to the states. She died a little over a year later in an auto wreck. Would love to go back some day. Would like to know if anyone has info on civilian who worked in Bentwaters Tower, Eddy Edwards, or Skip Decarl. 5/29/05

  • Al Woods: Bellville, TX 77418, Near Houston, TX. RAF Bentwaters, Aug 1954-Jan 1957, 81st Comm Sq(81COMRON)), maintained the Mobile Radio Teletype Vans. Also maintained and drove the base alert vehicle. Our shop was right under the water tank behind the airman's club. Lived in Ipswich on Dales Road, married Margaret Pope in 1955.   • Curtis Woods : Sacramento, CA. RAF Woodbridge, 1981-86, 81st Squadron, 78th Group, flight line A-10's. Trying to find old friends, one in particular, *FOUND KEVIN-THANKS TO THIS SITE* Kevin Turnbo. He was my best man. Wife was Candace, sons Courtney and Shane and a baby girl named Barbara Jean. Well, she was a baby way back then. My oh my, she would be about 14 to 15 now. How time has gone by. Any Help would greatly be appreciated. Have searched for them over 8 years. Would also like to find: Brad Cox (married to an English gal); Tom Burley (Son named Austin and he owned a Ford Bronco II); Vernon Scovins (My roommate, Henniker Rd, Ipswich); Richard & Roanne Clayton (think they where from Tahoe or Yuba City, CA); Mac (can't remember his whole name, lived in base housing, Shotley Gate, helped me when my moulers where taken out. Hehehe); Dave Clemons (the three of us arrived the same time); Dave (think that is his name, he was the son of the owner of the pub I went to near Henniker Rd. He always beat me when we raced our bicycles). Also seem to remember a guy by the name of SSgt Tim Brown, think that was his first name. He was the expediter. Any help would be great.   • Robert Woods: Alabama. RAF Bentwaters, 1986-90, Weapons Load Crew Chief (462X0/2W1X0), 510th AMU. Later went over to 81st EMS (armament back shop) and finished up with the 527th Agressor Sq before rotating back to the States. Now retired (1997) and think it is great that someone has taken the time to create a page to remember the times there. Keep up the good work. 12/28/99

  • *Chuck Wrobel: Minnesota. RAF Bentwaters/ RAF Shepards Grove 1951-Dec 1953. Moved with the 81st from Moses Lake, WA to RAF Bentwaters summer of l951 as a very young, 18 year old, Buck Sargent (then classified as A\4). Served RAF Bentwaters and Shepards Grove in the NCO Clubs and Officers Mess. Discharged December, 1953. Returned to school earning undergraduate and post- graduate degrees at U of Wisconsin and U of Minnesota. Spent my entire post AF career as a High School Teacher, School Administrator and Asst Commissioner. My thoughts of all of the people at these bases is heartwarming. Also, the English, recoiling from the war, were absolutely great. Now that I'm retired, I have both the time and inclination to start getting in touch with any and all of the RAF Bentwaters and Shepards Grove folks. Thank you for your excellent efforts in establishing and maintaining your web page.
