Velu runs away from home to escape the regular thrashing of his drunken father and lands in Chennai. There Jaya, a rag picker befriends him and teaches him the art of rag picking. But Velu's life in Chennai has to deal with Jaggu, the master of rubbish who cheats at the slightest chance and is led into the trap of Dorai, the evil money-lender. On the brighter side the rag pickers find a supporter in Brother, who also organises development workshops for the upliftment of the children.

While reading I always strive to maintain the motto, "Reading only fiction is like eating only cakes and sweets -- informative reading is like wholesome food which is a must for the mind." Keeping to this notion, special columns are given in every third page describing real-life situations and issues dealing with child labour, rag picking, waste disposal and other topics posing problems to our society.

The illustrations are simply fabulous and though the part about Rajnikanth is a bit exaggerated it helps the book retain its ground on reality. With all the illustrations, info and the smooth, easy flow, it is sure to make for great reading. So make sure to check it out the next time you are in here. Till then -- Happy Reading!
