![]() On September 2nd, at Mustard Seeds Library, we had a "Forget-Your-Exams Mela." This mela (which means "festival" or "fair") was a very informal gathering of members, friends and their families just to have a little fun during the grueling exam time and to celebrate freedom (for those whose exams had already finished). We did a lot of things on that day. We had dance and music performances. A patua named Karuna came from a village in Medinipur and sang songs for the scrolls she paints. We ate popcorn, googney (made by my mom and served on small leaf plates to be eco-friendly) and other snacks that were for sale (like that cake by Suki that sold out in 5 minutes!). We sold hand-made greeting cards (by Helping Hands Greeting Card Co ... started by our very own Chottu and Jijo who make a donation to RCFC from every card that's sold) and cards and handkerchiefs made by Jeevika Development Society and RCFC. We also brought our old clothes to donate to those who need them. There was a junk sale and we played different kinds of games (How many words can you make from MUSTARD SEEDS LIBRARY???). Do you believe this all happened in just one day?? Yes, it happened in only one day -- a Sunday that turned out to be a Funday for all the library members. The strange thing is that now we are all waiting for exams to come around again -- just so we can have another mela!! ![]()
