The aim of the details presented in this page is to bring
before your eyes, the entire convocation and its related events.
There was an 24cm x 13cm
advertisement about our convocation on page 13 of 'The Hindu' dated 29th
February 2004. It consisted of stamp size photos of all the
distinction holders with their names written below their photographs.
In addition, for me 'Univ Rank' was written in brackets.

Now on the convocation...............

Diginitaries on the stage : Along with the chief-guests, our
chairman, director, dean, prinicpal, secretary etc. were present.
Those who came for the convocation from our class :
Govindarajan, Vijay Karthik, Ramachandran, Krishnawsamy, Nallu, Anand,
Shivashankar, Thirugnanam, Raja, Krishnaraj, Balaji, Vasudevan, Kelvin,
Kanchana Devi, Vasheetha, Smitha, Anitha, Sowmya, Vidya Gopan, Gayathri.
Events :
All of us were given a yellow robe for
which the deposit was Rs.50. That was refunded when we gave back
that robe. We were also given the convocation address in the form
of a 10-page booklet and the instructions and the oath details.
As we wore that robe, at around 10.15
a.m., the convocation started with a procession of the chief-guests,
along with the members on the dias and HoDs of various departments, all
wearing some robe, coming from the chairman's room to the dias.
All audience were to stand at that time as those dignitaries took to
their seats.
Then the welcome address, declaring the
convocation open, director's report etc. happened.
Then our chief guest Dr.Sonde read out a
10 page convocation address. All of us were nervously turning the
pages with the thoughts of when he would finish. Luckily, he read it out fast and we
were grateful to him.
The various HoDs presented their
department's degree holders to the chairman and then the chief-guests
gave away the degrees to us in the roll number order, starting with the
Mech. department. Then it was EEE, ECE, CSE, IT, M.C.A., M.B.A.
and M.Sc(IT).
Then we all took the oath.
Then there was a vote of thanks and the
convocation was declared closed.
Then the procession marched back to the
chairman's room. All of us had to stand again.
Then after sometime, the dignitaries came
back in formals and the award presentation event started.
Once again, in the same order of the
departments, the distinction holders were given gold medals
each weighing 4 grams.
Then I was given the award for the
overall topper of the college and for securing a University Rank.
I was given a gold medal weighing 8 grams and a shield with a
flower vase and a clock embedded to it. Satish of the Mech.
department was given the gold medal weighing 6 grams, for the
second college topper position.
Then there were cultural events.
All those who came for the convocation,
including parents were provided with a free lunch.
Then there was a group-photo session with
the graduates (in their robes) of each department.
It all ended by around 3 p.m.
Our department secured the
largest number of distinctions (numbering eight) among the various
departments in our batch. The distinction holders of our class were
Govindarajan, Kelvin, Krishnaswamy, Lalith, Kanchana Devi, Shivashankar, Vijay Karthik,
Vasheetha.
All the departments except the CSE department,
recorded a higher pass percentage compared to the previous batch.
For your reminder, this was the information given in the invitation card
for our convocation.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. All guests/graduates are
requested to be seated by 9.45 a.m.
2. All are requested to remain standing when the Procession
enters the Venue. They can resume their seats only after the
members of Procession have taken their seats.
3. At the end of the Convocation, all are requested to
remain standing when the National Anthem is recited and till the
Procession leaves the Venue.
4. Cell Phones, Pagers and Personal Cameras are not
permitted.
