FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF OUR DEGREE COMPLETION

Its 26^th April 2004 - one year since we completed our BE degree. In our first anniversary of degree completion, its time to recap the events of this one year (26^th April 2003 - 26^th April 2004).  Here are they, listed in order.

 

	We departed on 26th April 2003, after completing our last exam namely Computer Communication.  There was a group photo session.  After that, slowly the buses moved out and we left the college with a heavy heart and lot of memories flashing in our minds.
	Govindarajan was the first person to get a job (in Prasad Studio) but he rejected it.
	Krishnaswamy was the first person to settle down in a job.  He joined Prasad Studio on 9th June 2003.
	Govindarajan and Krishnaswamy started doing a part-time course in computer hardware and networking in June 2003.
	Thirugnanam joined for a PGDBA degree, a 18th month management course in Chennai.
	Sowmya and some others started of with a course in Embedded Systems in Anna University.
	Srinivas Babu got a job in SDV Technologies, a software company in Chennai.
	Aarthi, was attending college to complete her course.  She had married before and was enjoying with her new baby girl.
	Sudheshna and Karuna were happily married.
	Our lecturer Mr. Rajesh Kumar, was doing his M.E. part-time and had an aim to do his Ph.D. in a foreign university.
	Our lecturer Mr. Prakash had taken up as lecturer in Rajalakshmi Engg. College in Chennai.  He was doing his part-time M.E. in Embedded Systems at Anna University.  It seemed even Mr. Raja, our lecturer, had joined as lecturer in the same college before him.
	Lalith left for the US in August 2003 to do his MS at Western Michigan University.
	The volley-ball court in our college was fully renovated with high fencing around it.
	The burial ground near our college had got a good high compound wall and gate and looked good.
	Sai Prasad left for Canada in September to do his PG in Wireless Communication.
	Shibu Thomas started his M.E. in VLSI at Sathyabama Engg. College, Chennai.
	Vijay Karthik joined Infosys on 13th October 2003 at Pune.
	Shivashankar joined Infosys on 17th November 2003 at Mysore.
	Rajesh left for Australia to do his MS at Ballaret University.
	Siva Subramaniam got some job in Delhi.
	Stephenson got a job in Bangalore.
	Our website was created by Govindarajan on 14th December 2003.
	Govindarajan and Krishnaswamy completed their part-time course in computer hardware and networking.
	Krishnaswamy had enrolled for his correspondence MBA at IGNOU in January 2004.
	Susheel left for the US in January 2004 to do his MS at South Alabama University.
	Govindarajan joined Wipro on 27th January 2004 after rejecting job offers from Prasad Studio, Banyan Networks, L&T Infotech and Alcatel.
	Kelvin left our Yahoo group in January 2004, surprising all of us.
	Krishnaraj joined a course in IBM mainframe at Samjass in Chennai.
	Our college got a new principal - Dr.R.Venkatasamy.
	Anand was doing a software course at NIIT in Chennai and was job-hunting.
	Raji was working in Chennai, as a faculty at Advantage Pro and as a Network and Hardware Engineer.
	Balaji was working in SDV Technologies, the same company where Srinivas Babu was also working.
	Siva Prasad was also working in SDV Technologies.
	Shamiquee was doing some Microsoft certified courses.
	Ramachandran took up the GATE exam on 9th February 2004.  Earlier, he undertook training for 6 months for the exam.  Meanwhile, he was also job-hunting.
	Krishnaswamy, working in Prasad Studio, was posted in Mumbai after completing his six month training in Chennai.
	Kelvin joined Syntel in Chennai on 13th February 2004.
	Nallu joined DSRC in Chennai on a self-support training basis.
	Vijay Karthik was posted in Chennai after successful completion of his training at Infosys.
	Our convocation was held on 29th February 2004.  Only 20 of us attended it.  It was the memorable event in our lives.  Sadly Raji and Sundar weren't allowed to attend for obvious reasons.
	Lalith and Sai Prasad had completed their first semester in their MS.
	Thirugnanam had completed his first semester in his PGDBA.
	Raja had completed a course in Networking and was searching for a job.
	Kumaresan was doing some part-time job in Chennai.
	Sundar was looking after his family business in Chennai.
	Vasudevan was in Chennai and searching for a job.
	Ramachandran joined TCS in Chennai on 3rd March 2004.
	Kelvin re-joined our Yahoo group in March 2004 after persuasion from us.
	Jojo John completed his MCSE certification and was searching for a job.
	Liju completed a course in VLSI. He was also searching for a job. Heard that he was giving more preference for a non-software job.
	Ramachandran had come out successfully in the GATE 2004 exam scoring 95.73 with a rank of 1599 out of 38157 ECE candidates who attended the exam.
	Anand joined Satyam Computers in Hyderabad on 22nd March 2004.
	Anitha joined BPL Hardware as R&D Engineer on 15th March 2004 at Bangalore.
	Suneeba was in Kerala and was job hunting.
	Bapineedu was doing a software course in .NET at Hyderabad.  He was planning to leave for Australia within a month or two to do his MS at Ballaret University.
	Ramachandran had completed his classroom training and was posted at the Vadapalani branch of TCS in Chennai.
	Our college had become a good spot for cine-shooting as Tamil films like Games, Adithadi etc. were shot there (two years ago the Tamil film 'Dil' was shot there).  Even our college chairman, Peter acted in one scene, as CM in the movie Adithadi.
	Our college chairman, Peter had opened three petrol bunks, with one in Kundrathur.
	Our juniors had also been black-mailed for their caution deposit and they too had lost it.
	The software company, SDV Technologies (in Chennai) in which Srinivas Babu and Balaji were working was declared a fraud company and was closed down.  Then, Srinivas Babu joined a course in Java.
	Heard Vidya was in Dubai.
	Govindarajan had enrolled for his correspondence MBA at IGNOU and it is scheduled to start in July 2004.
	Krishnaraj had completed his mainframe course at Samjass in Chennai.
	Govindarajan received calls for interviews in Government jobs, namely for Scientist positions in NRSA (National Remote Sensing Agency) on 16th April 2004 and ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) on 22nd April 2004.  But he didn't attend it.
	Our message forum was created by Govindarajan on 16th April 2004.
	Our website's visitor counter crossed the 1000 mark on 24th April 2004.  It was a good achievement considering the needs and the number people it served.
	Harish was in Andhra and he was job-hunting.
	Shivashankar completed his training at Infosys, Mysore and was posted in their Embedded Systems division in Bangalore in April 2004.
	Lalith, doing his MS, had completed his second semester.
	Govindarajan completed his 3 month training in Wipro on 26th April 2004 and was posted in Chennai.
	At the end of the first year of our degree completion, there were 31 of us in our Yahoo group.  One person, Arul Maran of the CSE Department was also in our group.  Two people, namely Raja and Sundar had registered in our groups but weren't counted as members as their mail accounts were bouncing.
	Even after one year, none of us received our group photo or our convocation photo.

Summary of the year - Altogether this year was a teasing time for most of us as we had a very bad time especially in job-search.  Then slowly, we started to settle.  The convocation gave a great opportunity for most of us to come together once again.  At the end of the first year, some of us had established ourselves in a decent position for a good career.  With all hope that the rest of us will also settle down in good positions and our relationship will still be stronger, we step into the second year, after completing our course.
