Game Modes and Features

A lot of the same game modes and features are back in Madden 2005. Joining the old features are some new features such as "Create-a-Fan" mode and "Storyline Central". I will explain all the features below and what they offer.

Game Modes & Features!
Game Mode
Information
Play Now

  • Here is the easiest way to just get a game going. Choose the teams you want involved and battle it out. No technical roster changes or storylines, just a good ol fashion brawl.
Note:All stats during a play now game are still contributed towards madden points. So play your best and earn some very needed tokens to help complete your madden card collection.

Madden Online

  • If you thought the computer was tough, wait until you face some live Madden Fans. These games are tough, teeth clenching competitions. Make one mistake and you could ruin your chances at victory. Online mode is only available for PS2 (network adapter) and Xbox (Xbox live).

Tournament

  • Having a kickass party and wanna spice it up? Have a Madden Tourney! Make it single elimination, double elimination, round robin or even double round robin for a really long affair! Whichever you choose be sure to show your friends who's boss.

Mini-Games

  • The mini games are back! Unlock special madden cards by getting the gold.
Note:Tips and tricks for each game can be found in the mini games section of the navigation bar.

Two Minute Drill

  • Having a little trouble scoring within two minutes? Well here's your chance to practice. Make a big game deciding situation where you HAVE to score or just a simple doesnt matter game where you just wanna get in the endzone. Either way the more times you get in the endzone the higher your score. So keep practicing until you've mastered the two minute drill. It will surely enhance your madden skills.
Two Minute Drill Tips
  • Avoid sacks at all costs. Just throw the ball away.
  • If you run the ball, run outside and get out of bounds. Never get tackled in the middle of the field or you'll lose precious seconds.
  • Master the deep pass. Deep outs, posts and fly's will annihilate the defense.

Football 101

  • New to the Madden series? Well this is the drill for you. Football 101 gives tips and tricks on every play in the playbook. Learn to master the playbook before you even step out onto the field. Earn madden tokens as well for play completion, the yards you gained, and whatever special moves you decide to use.

Practice

  • Take out the playbook and get onto the field. Its time to run some practice and learn the ins and outs of every play. Learn who your key players are and who has the potential to be one. There are three types of practice.
    • Normal---> Offense vs. Defense
    • Offense Only---> Only offense shows up on the field
    • Kickoff---> Practice your special teams skills.

Create-a-Player

Once again you can create your own star to dominate the field. Here are the things you can do to customize your player.
  • Start off by filling out his information such as his name, number, college, etc.
  • Next up you can change his appearance. Make a 6'8" WR that will completely topple over any defensive back and dominate the passing game. The choices are nearly endless so play around and see what works best for your player.
  • On the next screen you can fine tune the players body to what you'd prefer. Jack him up with World's Strongest Man muscles or plump him up and make him big. The size choices will most likely affect your players performance on the field. Make him to bulky he could have trouble using any type of special moves. To skinny and you wont be breaking any tackles.
  • Then you have the equipment screen. Give you player a unique look so anyone can point him out on the field.
  • Finally the part everyone loves, the attributes screen. Max out your players stats and make him the God of the NFL or set his stats realistically. Whichever you choose to do Im sure you'll be happy with the end result.

Create-a-Fan
NEW!

  • Now during cutscenes in madden you can see your fans cheering you on or booing the opponent. Make sure those fans are looking stylish by customizing your own! This cool new feature brings you into the crowd to change the look of your fans. Here are the many attributes you can change to buff up your crowd:
    • Team
    • Skin
    • Body Shape
    • Torso
    • Pants
    • Face
    • Face Paint
    • Hair Style
    • Hair Color
    • Hat
    • Face Prop
    • Hand Prop

Create-a-Team

  • Same concept as last years create-a-team. Pick your city, name, logo, state, abbreviation, team roster and climate. Design your stadium from the ground up with different styles of scoreboards, tunnels and even press boxes. Make your stadium unique.

Create-a-Playbook

  • Here is your chance to be the head coach. Be creative, mix up the field a little. Surprise opposing defenses. You can come up with your own complete playbook or edit a previous one. The first step to creating your playbook is to choose a formation. Once you do that you can place your players whereever you see fit in order to make the play work. Once they are set, choose their routes, then start the play. Keep messing with it until you feel it is perfect. Perfection is the key here. Reach it and you're sure to dominate.

Historic Teams

  • Wish you could return to the days of old? Well now you can! Madden '05 includes more historic teams than ever. Make a historic team tournament to see who truly is the best. Take the 72 Dolphins for a spin. Test out the Vikings of the 70's. How bout the '85 Bears or even the Cowboy's of the 90's. The teams are all amazing. The question is.. do you know how to use them?

EA Sports Bio

  • Continue you EA Sports bio from last years games or start a new one. The more you play the higher your level. Keep track of all your stats and achievements. The higher your level the better your awards.

WR Option Routes
NEW!

  • The computer has a mind of its own with this new feature. The route your receiver runs depends on the current defense. This is a good feature for finding hole sin the defense but the down side is you never really know where your receiver is heading. This makes it hard to time a pass right. However a lot of the times your receiver will be so open it wont matter. You're practically guarantee'd 6 if the receiver reads it right.

Madden Cards

  • The cards are back. Earn cards by doing many different things in the game. Work through mini-camp, football 101 and just having good games in general will get you tokens for more cards. There are 5 functions to the cards:
    • Activate Cheats
    • Sell for tokens
    • Trade with other players
    • Buy with tokens
    • Bet a card in a game against a friend

Storyline Central
NEW!

  • This new addition to the franchise mode is what it's all about. Keep tabs on what's going on around the NFL and with your team. Injury updates, player updates and even performance awards are noted in the storyline. If a player is unhappy this is where he'll let you know. There are three ways to hear about the stories:
    • The newspaper: Every team has a hometown paper which offers updates on your team. Aside from that there is the USA Today which provides news from around the NFL.
    • Email: Every week you'll receive emails from players, coaches, gm's and the PR department about the performance of your team.
    • Radio: Host Tony Bruno will offer his input on the big stories surrounding the NFL. This radio show includes call-ins, coach and player interviews, trivia questions and NFL issues.

The game modes and features only have a few new introductions. Nevertheless Madden still brings the action packed fun and in-depth gameplay you look for in a football game.
