It is estimated that during any given six-month period,
7.5 million children, ages 17 and under will experience some type of mental illness. Fewer than 1 in 5 receive
treatment. Often there are signs in a child's behavior that indicate early stages of a mental illness.

These include:

> Decline in school performance.
> Excessive anxieties about school or other situations.
> Excessive irritability.
> Persistent disobedience and aggression.
> Monotone speech, unusually quiet.
> Fidgeting, inability to remain still.
> Complain of pain that seems to have no physical cause.
> Uncontrollable crying.
> Substance abuse.
> Innappropriate outburts.
> Suicide attempts.
