Vol.7 : Trunks

Trunks Close Up

Trunks begins the finally update to my Super Collection page. Trunks is by far the most popular character in DBZ. On can easily tell how popular Trunks is by the number of DBZ fans who have some form of Trunks' name in their screen name. Just take a look at any DBZ message board.

This Trunks figure is based on the DBZ character most commonly referred to as Future Trunks. In DBZ there are two different Trunks. Future Trunks comes from the future to prepare the Z warriors for the androids' arrival. Future Trunks lives in a time where all the Z warriors had been killed by the androids. Futures Trunks came back in time through the use of a time machine built by his mother, Bulma. He can to the present to stop his future form occurring. I won't go into too much detail. Trunks is the son of Vegeta and Bulma.

The Super Collection Trunks figures are the most difficult Super Collection figures to find due to Trunks' popularity. This is usually the case with most DBZ series of toys. The Trunks toys are usually the most wanted and hardest to find. Too many fans, not enough toys.

The Trunks figure is very nicely done. He features the typical arm articulation and articulated waist. He also comes with his sword packaged with his toy just as all toys of Future Trunks should have. The sheath, which houses the sword, needs to be assembled and stickers need to be applied to it. His Sword can be removed from its sheath. The belt which holds the sword and sheath in place seems to be slightly too large as the sheath keeps slipping off Trunks' shoulder. Enjoy the pics of this highly wanted toy.

Please remember this toy is not for sale. Its from my private collection.

Now here is the MOST DIFFCULT to find Super Collection toy. This is Super Saiyan Trunks. He was the second onscreen Saiyan to go Super Saiyan.

He is the most difficult to find since there were originally only two figures of Super Saiyan Trunks in his Capsule Corp. jacket. This being one and the other being the Super Battle Collection SS Trunks which was included in the SBC Super Saiyan 3 pack. Since the 3 pack seems to be harder and costlier to find then Super Collection toys, most people settle for this version of SS Trunks. But the Super Collection SS Trunks isn't an easy find either as its price tends to also get a little out of hand. There are just too many DBZ fans driving the prices of DBZ toys through the roof thanks to the help of auction sites like eBay. This site is starting to be the number one enemy of collectors as everyone considers the eBay prices these toys sell for to be the fair market value. So generally a seller will base his asking price on the exaggerated winning bid off a previously auctioned off toy.

Just recently a new SS Trunks made by Irwin joined the Super Collection SS Trunks and Super Battle Collection SS Trunks. So the rare Japanese SS Trunks are no longer the only way to go. Hopefully Irwin's releases of Trunks figures should help calm down the exaggerated prices of the original Japanese SS Trunks toys. Irwin has done an excellent job with the all new DBZ toys and the Trunks figures are some of their best. I actually believe the two new Trunks figure done by Irwin are superior to the older Japanese Trunks figures by Bandai. Never thought I would say that.

This SS Trunks is very nicely done and includes all the accessories as the regular Trunks figure described above. However the SS Trunks has one main advantage over the regular Trunks. He can actually hold his sword in hand. Now, why a Super Saiyan needs to hold a sword and a regular Saiyan does not beats the heck out of me. The SS Trunks has the same articulation as the regular Trunks. There is only one sour note I have with the SS Trunks. He has two strands of hair, which are painted onto his face. I would have preferred if they were molded into the actual hair. But this is only a minor complaint.

Vol.9 : Super Saiyan Gohan

The last Super Collection figure produced is Super Saiyan Gohan. Gohan is the first born son of Gokou. In the beginning of DBZ Gohan is a small child who is forced and pushed by his mother to stay home and study so he can get good grades in school. He goes through no training what so ever so he is seen as being a regular child. This however all changes when Raditz comes to Earth. During his father and Piccolo's battle against Raditz, Gohan shows a glimpse of his huge inner potential and power. Gohan's power comes from his anger, meaning the anger he gets the stronger he becomes. Gohan's goodness and kindness is what changed Piccolo to a good person. Gohan has the ability to become the most powerful fighter in the DBZ world, but is held back because he does not love fighting as his father does.

SS Gohan is another nice feature. His cape is removable just as Piccolo's. But with SS Gohan you have to pop his head off where as with Piccolo the cape just slides off his head. SS Gohan has the same standard articulation found in other Super Collection figures.

I've taken pictures of Gohan with his cape and with it removed. You get to see the details in the cape and the details in the body of the figure.

These pictures were slightly rushed by me so they didn't come out as well as I would have liked. I apologize for that. Hopefully they are good enough for the vistors of this site. I'll try and retake them at a later date.
