HALF N' HALF

She knew this was the day,
she would say her good-byes
Baby to be relinquished,
and hummed her a lullaby.
All she had to give her,
for a keepsake to remind
Half-dime on a necklace,
only treasure she could find.

Adopted by a family,
with riches beyond compare
They loved her, spoiled her,
special princess and heir.
She grew up a social butterfly,
had best of both worlds
Soon to be married,
lavished her in string of pearls.

In a nearby restaurant,
where she orders her tea
Waitress said to her,
"Somehow you remind me of me."
They spent many hours,
exchanging stories of family
How one came to be a waitress,
the other an adoptee.

Day before her wedding,
she stopped in one last time
Waitress gave her a present,
a necklace with half-dime.
She looked with tears in her eyes,
she knew it was her
They each had half n' half,
and a reunion since birth.
