IRELAND TRAVEL ITINERARY
March 14:
  Arrival in Dublin
     Bray / Killiney
     Co. Wicklow
     Glendalough
March 13th Baltimore to JFK to Dublin
Dublin's Westmoreland St. Arrival Day - 3/14
Glendalough in Co. Wicklow
I traveled with my friends Michelle and Danny.  Michelle is my Baltimore-based friend.  Danny is a Houston-based friend & Accenture-days collegue.  Michelle and I flew to Dublin and met up with Danny later that day.  We rented a car for our cross-country travels.  Danny graciously drove (even though he was unable to sleep on his flight to Dublin).
Michelle & I arrived 5 hrs earier than Danny so we took a bus into the Dublin City Centre for breakfast and to see a couple of sights.  We met up with Danny around 1:30pm at the airport, loaded the car & drove south to Co. Wicklow & Glendalough.
The Traveling Crew at Glendalough
Glendalough is a national heritage park about an hour south of Dublin in Co. Wicklow, also known as the "Garden County."  While on work assignment in Dublin '00, I was able to take a 1/2 day trip to Avoca (or "Ballykissangel").  But, I was unable to see Glendalough.  So, I added it to our itinerary.  It was a nice surprise.  From here, we traveled on to Wicklow gap and on to Waterford where we spent the night.  Danny was baptized by fire with his driving role.  He was able to successfully navigate the narrow roads and opposite-to-us driving.  All of that on no sleep.  He drove immediately after arriving at the airport.
Monastery @ Glendalough
A Cathedral.  It has not been in use since 1254.  It is one of the largest known Early Christian churches in Ireland, according to the historical marker on site.  Exterior and interior views here.

Behold The Sacred Guardian Sheep
I think it is safe to say that the entire crew was freaked out on the first driving day.  The anxiety was probably fueled by little to no sleep, hunger, new country and opposite-to-us driving on narrow, blind-curve roads.  The stop in Glendalough was enjoyable.  Then I realized I had left driving directions to the B&B's on the airplane.  Luckily, we were able to get Danny's laptop powered up and retrieve them.  The first day was successful.  I felt if we could get through this day, then the rest would be smooth-sailing...
The rental car we had in Ireland.  Ar least it was a Mercedes (albeit  small).
