۩ Came from a family of Baal worshippers. Built an altar for worshiping the LORD and pulled down the altar where his father had worshiped the Canaanite god Baal.

۩ Afraid to trust God, portrayed as an arrogant coward, fleece God for confirmation.

۩ God gave him a plan to defeat the Midianites who had joined with the Amalekites to steal Israel's livestock and crops. God reduce the army from 22,000 to 300 men, and they won by blowing a trumpet, and saying, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon. Also called Jerubbaal.

۩ Honored the LORD by refusing to be made king. Ended up worshipping Baal.

۩ Abimelech, his son of a concubine, kill his seventy sons, and tried to be king, by the men of Shechem.

۩ Born to a barren woman  (Manoah) by promise. He was a Nazarite from birth, but broke his vows.

۩ He was a womanizer and a drunk, who loved strange women.

۩ His wife was taken from him and given "to his companion". For this he took revenge by using three hundred foxes, and turned tail to tail, and put a firebrand in the midst between two tails to the burning the "standing corn of the Philistines". Who, in their turn, in revenge "burnt her and her father with fire." He then took revenge again, and smote them hip and thigh with a great slaughter:

۩  He took a jawbone of an ass, and slew a thousand men therewith.

۩  God helped him bring relief from the Philistines. He had a fatal attraction to Delilah, thus he broke his covenant and told her of it.

۩ Died by committing suicide in the temple of the philistine, thus killing more at his death than during his lifetime.

۩ High Priest & Judge

۩ He failed to reprove his sons Hophni and Phinehas, who grossly misconducted themselves.

۩ Sent the Ark of Covenant to war with Israel against the Philistines who were defeated, by a great slaughter. The Ark was taken by the Philistines.

۩ When  the news came back to Eli, sitting outside the temple that there has also been a great slaughter among the people, his sons were dead, and the ark of God is taken, the old man, whose eyes were stiffened, fell backward from off his seat and died, being ninety and eight years old.

Samuel

۩ Priest, Prophet & Judge

۩ Son of Hannah (who was barren) after weaning, consecrated him to the Lord as a perpetual Nazarite.

۩ It was written of him that "The child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the Lord, and also with men".

۩ Heard the voice of God calling from he was a young child, not knowing God he went to Eli thrice, who then told him it was God. That he should answer "Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth."

۩ Anointed Saul to be king of Israel under direction of God.

۩ Also anointed David to be king, after God's grace left Saul.
