LANCASTER LUNE AND WYRE MOTORCYCLE CLUB

Newsletter No 125                                                                                                                                                        May 2002

Great turn out again last month for Mike’s evening on Douglas suspension, a real ‘hands on’ event too. I have to admit to not knowing that Douglas’s had torsion bar suspension, I thought their only oddity was flat twin with chain drive…..Thanks to Mike for an interesting event.

Nice tank too from Chris, takes some doing to assemble such a complex shape, with internal baffles, solder it and make it water-tight to inside and to outside……real craftsmanship.

It’s been a busy month so far for the bike by all accounts. It looks as though I missed the Vintage Club’s founder’s day run over the Bank Holiday weekend, I have to say that I’d not seen it advertised as prominently as in previous years and am really sorry to have missed it. From all accounts the run was good and I do recall seeing a number of Gold Stars passing the road end on the Bank Holiday Sunday. The weather was reasonable and I understand the checkpoints at Levens and Penrith were well attended.

I’m sitting here preparing this script, glowing after a tremendous morning out on Derek’s breakfast run. Thirteen bikes departed nearly on time from the Bull Beck lay-by and were treated to a lovely run up through Barbon, Dentdale, Kirkby Stephen, Brough and Middleton in Teesedale for breakfast in Barnard Castle. A really good scran was had for the princely sum of  £3 for half breakfast or £4.75 for full breakfast. Only a couple of the team managed a full breakfast, though nothing was left, and Derek’s plate was definitely the shiniest at the end. The return trip was just as scenic back over the moors to Hawes, Ribblehead, Clapham, Wray and home. Thirteen bikes departed, unfortunately one Harley made an early retreat, and twelve returned safe and sound. We were also graced with the presence of Jean and Erica who brought the sunshine along with them……..
