Water Rationing starts Jan . 06
The Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) will implement water rationing in the city starting Monday, Jan. 06.
ZCWD General Manager Engr. Juanita Bucoy said the water level at its intake dam at the Pasonanca watershed has dropped to critical level.
In a public notice posted in local newspapers, the ZCWD said a dry run of the water rationing system will start on Monday.
Bucoy did not explain the length or duration of the run.
The water district has divided Urban Zamboanga into eight zones to which water flow will be controlled during the rationing period.
The period of water cutoff will not be the same since some areas like the city proper will have water for 18 hours while those in the outskirts will have only four hours.
Bucoy said that her office is closely monitoring the water level in the upper Tumaga River that serves as a gauge or indicator if the water supply level is beginning to decrease.
While the ZCWD has nine deep well functioning in several areas in the city, the volume of water coming from these wells is not enough to augment the water volume need by its some 38,000 water concessionairs.
Water concessionaires have been asked to prepare water containers to store water in case water rationing will be imposed.
The water district imposed water rationing in the city from March to June last year.
