Malachite and rhodonite I have found around some old mine dumps.  California jade I found small quantities of at Jade Cove on the Pacific Coast Highway.  I have never found any turquoise since the mine I went to was closed to the public because of high insurance costs.

The first picture shows how far we had to climb down to get to the rocks.   I found some small pieces of jade but not worth the trip.  The scenery was beautiful and so it was not without pleasure.  I am told there is plenty of California jade further north.  I have enjoyed rock hunting when we traveled.   We have been to some beautiful places and to some desolate  places.  We didn't take pictures of the desolate places.

Panning for gold in Colorado.  Don't laugh.  I actually got some gold dust.  Not much but I had done my home work and knew to scoop from where a rock was trapping the gold dust.  Gold is heavier than the soil and will sink in the area where it is trapped by the rock.  I will never get rich this  way !!!  I would have rather searched their mine dump for rocks but this was an active mining operation and you could not search their mine dumps.
