     Buddhist texts produced in India in the 11th and 12th centuries CE were written on palm leaves and strung with cord to produce books. They were often philosophical treatises on the nature of wisdom and compassion, and were beautifully illustrated  with scenes from the life of Buddha, in bright colours, featuring especially brilliant red and yellow.
          The Buddhist faith has a huge with range of sacred texts of which one example is the pali canon. Written originally in pali, an ancient North India Language,  it contains the teachings and sermons of Buddha; it is diveded into three sections know is pitaka by all Buddhists as each school of Buddhism has it own canon.
