Ethnical conduct is defened by the Five Precepts, or guidelines:

  1. Take no life.
  2. Do not steal - be generous.
  3. Abstain from sexual misconduct.
  4. Abstain from wrong speech - do not tell lies.
  5. Abstain from intixicants.

The core of the Buddha's pholosophy is to follow the Four Nobel Truths:

  1. All life is permeated by suffering or non satisfaction (dukkha), the effect of karma.
  2. The cause of suffering is craving (tanha) and a misplaced sense of the values.
  3. Craving, and therefore suffering, can be eliminated. Freedom from recurring delution, or samsara, leads to nirvana.
  4. The way to enlightenment is by following the Nobel Eightfold Path

The Nobel Eightfold Path

Right Understanding.
Right attitude.
Right speech.
Right action.
Right accupation or livehood.
Right effort.
Right awareness.
Right composure.
The Nobel Eightfold Path is known olso asthe'Middle Way', because it is balanced and practical, not extremist. It can be devaded into three aspects: truth and insight; ethical conduct; and spiritual discipline.
