Buddhism arose at a time when
religious revival and renewal was sweeping the world. It grew out of the
Hindu religion, a traditional which had long been in excistence, Buddhism
shared some central ideas with Hinduism, especially that of reincarnation,
and the law of cause and effect - karma. However, Buddha did make a
decisive break whith Hinduis, in that his teachings did not centre upon
belief in Gods ( although he did not diny the excistence of God or Gods ).
He also rejected the caste system, and sacrificial cults.
