OFFICIAL RULES PowerToss is a simple game, as most great games are. However, if you want to play the game right, you've got to play by the rules. These rules have stemmed from hours and hours of playing and were created to correct problems that arose or to try to stop potential disputes from occuring. Some of them, though -- I mean, we're not gonna lie -- are just for shits and giggles and are just to make you laugh and add a little more flavor. C'mon, who doesn't love shits, giggles, and flavor?Equipment For MAYhem, the official, regulation equipment will be a PowerAde bottle that, when filled to the appropriate level with pure water, will be weigh 12.5 ounces. For friendly games, though, of course you're allowed to basically use
any substance filled to any weight. Use whatever you've got. Playing with what's
available is so much better than not playing at all!
Personal Fouls Personal fouls in the game of PowerToss are issued to players for minor
faults, mainly...
The Español Rule: Each player,
either when asked by another player what his or her score is, or when announcing
their score after a point, must announce their score in Spanish. For example, after
busting my first point of the game, I would say, "Uno." Later, if someone asked me what
my score was, I would tell them "uno," or "dos," or "tres," whatever the case may be.
(The Español Rule is only in effect when referring to scores. English can be used
for any other numeric values, such as, "I have won four games this period," or "I
beat him four times.")
If I were to stick one mid-game and then announce, "Two!" Well, that's a personal foul,
which doesn't hurt you immediately, but if you somehow manage to rack up five personal
fouls, that equals one technical foul which results in a loss of a point. Read about
technical fouls below.
In a casual game, personal fouls can also be issued by players to
another player who has committed a minor infraction, i.e. throwing the bottle and
grabbing it in mid-air, etc.
The Signal for a personal foul is making
a fist if one's left hand, holding the forearm straight upward in front of the body, while
grasping the left wrist with the right hand (see diagram.)
Note: You have to really try hard to get five personal fouls. This is one
of those "shits and giggles" rules, but it is stringently enforced.
Technical Fouls Technical fouls are serious business in the game of PowerToss.
A
technical foul results in a loss of one point from that player's score. Two technical
fouls in one game period result in a suspension of one game. Each additional technical
foul adds one game to the suspension length.
During MAYhem, a technical foul will
be issued for the following infractions, without question:
In casual games, without referees, any player can call for a technical
foul on another player, and if a majority of the players involved agree, the
technical foul will be assessed. And if you're Tan Calabrese, a technical can, legally,
be called on you for just about anything.
Consequences of technical fouls are as
follows:
The Signal for a technical foul is
touching the tips of one's extended fingers on the left hand with the palm of the
right hand, fingers extended (see diagram.)
