The Players

The game of PowerToss has grown so fast, it's hard to keep up with it sometimes. It's scary to have people come up to me and say, "Last period, there were at least three different games of PowerToss going on." Since, originally, this game was just intended to get us through some of the long 7th period study halls, to see it being played by so many people is exciting as well as mind-boggling.

Having said that, I apologize to those out there in Mustang Nation who play the game with the great passion and heart that many of you play it with, because I know I won't be able to list all of you -- either because I've never played with you, never knew you played, or even because I don't know you. I sincerely apologize. But keep on playing, and helping the game grow!

Chris Sampson
master powertosser

One of the first players of PowerToss in the modern era, Sampson has nailed some of the most unbelievable shots imaginable. His legacy began growing after a lightning round in which he busted 12 straight, a record that still stands. Later in his career, he wowed everyone in the room when he hit a double-flip that looked doomed for failure until it managed to slide upwards and right itself perfectly. Sampson later earned himself the nickname "Saint Christopher" after two of his tosses, in the same period, inexplicably raised straight upward after falling deep into the depths of the crevassier. He has sat atop the PowerToss rankings for weeks and has solidified a #1 seed in MAYhem, weeks before the rankings will even be revealed.

Matt Lynch
streaky consistency

Quite possibly the hardest PowerToss player to get a good read on, Lynch can be hotter than it seems humanly possible one day, then colder than ice the next. When he's cold, nothing seems to go his way. When he's hot, though, the competition is in some trouble. Luckily for him, he seems to be "on" more than "off." (Knock on wood.) As one of PowerToss's founding fathers (and webmaster), he's currently in the race for a #1 seed and is on pace for the second #1, behind Sampson.

Kenny Riddell
trough rider extraordinaire

One of 6th Period Lunch's best PowerTossers, Kenny Riddell has become a master of the Trough Ride. His slick flips are nauseating to watch. As the cap of the bottle defies gravity, it almost looks like the top of the bottle is pulling the bottom straight up, rather than vice-versa. Also in the race for a #1 seed.

Scot Russell
clutch rigor mortis

One of the game's grandfathers, Russell might be known more for his Name Game skills than PowerToss prowess, but that's changing. Russell is probably the best the extremely hard to master "rigor mortis" technique, and has been known to make clutch rigor mortis shots, defying Bill Buckner.

Evan McCann
fear the claw

"The Claw" is one of the most unorthodoxed styles known in the game of PowerToss. Using the thumb and middle fingers, with the index finger as a guide, McCann tosses the bottle side-armed. And damned if it doesn't work well, too. After floundering in mediocrity for a time, McCann's "Claw" has helped him become an elite player. While The Claw has its plusses, such as inticing others to try it (and always failing thusly), it has a severe minus: when it's off, it's completely unforgiving.

Tan Calabrese
the father of amplitude

With one of the most disgusting moves in the game, Tan Calabrese prefers showmanship over a proven winner. This is evidenced by the fact that he would sooner toss the bottle as high as possible ("amplitude") in an attempt to hit one of his rare, "glorious" sticks (which will impress even the most conservative players), rather than using a lower-amplitude style, which he has actually been very successful with. Maybe this vomit-inducing blatant disrespect of the game is why he gets T'd up so much. Or not, I don't know.

Sara Slampak
first lady of powertoss

As the first female player in PowerToss (but certainly no longer the only), Sara Slampak has quietly found her niche in the PowerToss world. She made her impact by winning a convincing game during her Appleknocker period and hasn't looked back since. She's not afraid to run with the big boys. And don't play her in Name Game. She'll stab you directly in the back and not think twice about it.

Mike Kopacko
clown prince of powertoss

With his oft-outrageous hairstyles and belches that can fell entire cities, Mike Kopacko can really throw the proverbial monkey into the wrench. He can really get you off your game from time to time, but has been known to go into some serious streaks of his own.

Jozef Michniak
the quiet cool

Michniak is an intense player who chooses to remain mostly quiet during his games, both vocally and in terms of style. He doesn't Ride The Trough, he doesn't go for Amplitude, he doesn't call for fouls, and he doesn't make enemies. But what he does do, though, is win.
