MAYhem '03

MAYhem is the Official Laurel Highlands PowerToss Tournament. To be held in the month of May (get it?), MAYhem's details are still being finalized. We do, however, have many of the details already ironed out or at least somewhat wrinkle-free.

when is MAYhem?

MAYhem, obviously, is in May. The specific dates, however, have not been confirmed.

where will MAYhem take place?

We're currently looking at the logistics of venues for MAYhem. The leading candidate right now is the Ed. T. Cupp Cafeteria. If scheduling problems arise, though, some preliminary games may have to be held elsewhere.

how do I get into MAYhem?

Even if you don't play PowerToss, you can get in MAYhem. MAYhem is meant to get as many people involved as we can, no matter what age, sex, race, ethnicity, hair color, socioeconomic status, political party affiliation, sexual preference, height, weight, or even width you might be. Just simply ask one of the many PowerToss players, specifically myself (Matt Lynch), Scot Russell, Chris Sampson, etc. Your best bet, though, is to come by the cafeteria study hall during 7th period. That's where the big boys play, baby.

does it cost any money?

We're looking at a small entrance fee for the participants of MAYhem. That money, though, will go towards prizes to be given to the winner (or possibly even place-winners) at the end of the tournament.

how many people will be in MAYhem?

Since we're following a March Madness format, our ideal number would be sixty-four. However, depending on interest, we may have less or quite possibly more than that amount. Tell your friends about MAYhem!

what format will MAYhem follow?

As mentioned above, MAYhem will follow a March Madness format. All preliminary games leading up to the Final Four will be played in a head-to-head, first-to-five format. The first player to reach cinco will advance to the next round.

The final four players remaining will all go into a Final Four Championship Match, where the first player to reach five will be declared the winner. The second, third, and fourth places will be determined by scores when the winner is declared.

what is the MAYhem Skills Competition?

At the moment, the MAYhem Skills Competition is just an idea, but it very well could become a reality. The idea proposed is a skills competition, to be held between the regional finals and Final Four Championship Match. Players who have been eliminated from the MAYhem tournament will be invited to showcase their skills in such fields as Amplitude, Riding The Trough, Grill Shots, Frequency, the infamous art of Cap Shots, and many more. There will not, however, be any three-on-one shootout, dunk contest, or home run derby. Those are so played out. (For more info on these skills, check out our Random Stuff page.)
