The small lakeside town of Neuvic
(population 1,800) is 624m above sea level and is bordered
by forests. In the valley of the Triouzoune river, it has
become an important tourist centre following the formation
of the Lac de la Triouzoune.
There is a lively market as well
as a good range of restaurants, bars and shops, including
traditional boulangeries where bread is baked throughout
the day, butchers, charcuteries and greengrocers,
several small but well-stocked supermarkets, gift shops,
a pharmacy and two newsagents which stock a wide selection
of postcards, stationery, maps and books. You can even get
English newspapers if you're feeling homesick!
Beside the lake, Neuvic-Plage offers
a variety of watersports as well as golf, a family beach
and a hôtel with a good view from the restaurant terrace.
