Manzagol is a small hamlet across
the water from Neuvic on the eastern side of the Lac de
la Triouzoune. It has no real centre but is dominated by
the Puy de Manzagol (692m), deservedly marked as a viewpoint
on the Michelin maps and a pleasant 10 minute walk from
Les Genêts.
The house itself is part of a small
development of seven widely spaced houses on a winding private
road leading down tho the lake, and is on the plot nearest
the lake, only 100m from the water's edge but set high on
a south-facing slope. There are spectacular views across
the lake and the sunset has to be seen to be believed!
The surrounding woodlands of pine,
chestnut, oak and birch are home to an abundance of wild
flowers, birds and small mammals, including red squirrels
(there are no grey squirrels in France). Autumn visitors
can gather mushrooms of all kinds - the pharmacy in Neuvic
is happy to examine them and advise on which are edible
- as well as blackberries and nuts.
