John Paul Abellera took up BA Communications and Media Studies and BS Business Management at San Beda College-Alabang. His works have been published in The Philippine Star and The Manila Times. His short story, Quiapo, was a finalist at the 2003 NVM Gonzalez Awards. He co-wrote with Jon Lazaro the song, Awit Ng Pagmamahal, which won 3rd Prize at the 2000 Pro-Life Philippines Foundation, Inc. Song-Writing Contest. He is currently affiliated with ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc. (Star Cinema), for which he has co-written the screenplay of D' Anothers, Dubai and All About Love and the story of Close To You. He was awarded the 2006 Maria Clara Award for Best Screenplay for Dubai, along with co-writers Ricky Lee and Shaira Salvador.
