Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was born in Rangoon Burma. She had two brothers, Aung San Oo and Aung San Lin. When she was two years old her father and eight other associates were assassinated. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s brother Aung San Lin died when he was eight, drowning in an ornamental lake in the grounds of the house. In 1960 Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and her brothers accompanied their mother to Delhi on her appointment as Burmese ambassador to India and Nepal. Before Daw Aung San Suu Kyi went to India she had attended Catholic schools in Burma, even though she was brought up as a Buddhist. While living in India Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s other brother Aung San Oo was sent to attend Dover College in England while she remained and learnt to arrange flowers and ride.
