PREFACE

The knowledge of medical science is well documented in vast medical literature and many text books.

The norms or rules which are useful to be adopted in day-today life to practice medicine are buried scatteredly in literature in many books and journals. Only few doctors have the time and resources to dig up these informations by searching massive literature on diverse subjects.

Many useful norms and thoughts have been described in the present booklet in relation to dealing with various type of patients. Moreover the idea and thoughts have been presented in relations to general duty doctors, specialists, and doctors engaged in research activities and medical education. As doctor is also a social being so in addition to medical profession he has to face other social duties like responsibility of the parents, children, wife, teachers, colleagues, relatives etc. These have also been concised with the aim to be helpful in routine social activities and life span to carry on the life span smoothly.

I have no doubt that this booklet will be beneficial to doctors in practice and to run the life smoothly and peacefully.

Although the summary style of presentation adopted here may fail to satisfy the appetite of some readers, yet it should be remembered that it is an attempt of author to present salient and somewhat disputed thoughts and facts in a concise manner and in a simple form rather than to write in form of a text-book. It may be possible that the booklet may not be impressive initially to some readers. It is hereby advised that they should read more than ones, think, reorient, then analyse the concised matter. I hope that this booklet will be fruitful and will be liked. The compiled own thoughts and facts from diverse resources in the present booklet are suitable for doctors working in India and its subcontinental countries and aimed to benefit the people of rest of the countries.

I shall be grateful for the comments, suggestions and healthy critics of the readers for the present monogram to improve the next edition so that the booklet becomes more beneficial and helpful to serve the humankind.

I. INTRODUCTION

Doctor has no country. His work and life are for human kind. People take doctor next to God who serves the sick and injured persons and gives relief to all of them.

Doctors life is only for service and betterment of sick persons irrespective of caste, religion, category i.e. poor or rich.

Doctors profession is not for earning the money but only to render services for public welfare.

There is no doubt that people who seek the advice of doctor or are in need, the doctor should offer his service day and night even in odd hours without taking a care of his own comfort.

At the same time, the doctor is also a human being. He lives in society. His responsibility towards family, friends and well-wisher is however, not less than that towards the patients.

The present time is metallic age [Money dominating era]. So money is essentially required to perform duty and responsibility towards both the patients and society, more sincerely, more punctually, more faithfully, more truly in a justified manner. In addition he can not escape his duties towards his parents, brothers and sisters and relatives to help them in each respect they need.

Today, moreover, to maintain the standard and status of the profession, to provide better and quick service fairly and punctually every means need money.

In addition, doctor has also some duties towards the relatives and other family members, for attending certain functions ceremony and social gathering.

He has to participate in activities of society [ help in charity, recreation, mass education, etc.] to make a better image and goodwill.

Thus the controversy arises that doctor should perform his duties towards the patient solely or he should also give due proper attention to the society, family, friends and well wisher as doctor is also a part of society. He can not leave alone and moreover his patients are also social creature.

However, in working hours, the doctor should do his duty sincerely and honestly, similarly he should spare some times for society and family too.

Now question arises how a doctor should justify his duty and responsibility towards patients, family and society. How he should behave? How he best to perform his duty with patients, how he can provide his services in society and how best he can pay attention to his family members, friends and well wishers. How can he earn and how best he can serves.

There is not a single clear cut formula which could be applicable, and can guide a doctor due to social economic differences.
