IV. DOCTOR'S DUTIES TOWARDS OTHER THAN THE PATIENTS

1. DUTIES TOWARDS ELDER FAMILY MEMBERS AND AGED PARENTS

     Never neglect the parents and elder family members in the old age when they are unable to earn and needs your help indeed.

    Pay due respect, have affection and sympathy for aged parents. Spare at least a few minutes from your busy schedule to discuss your family problems.

     Take advantage and learn from their valuable experience of life struggle. They may prove very helpful in guiding you and to overcome disaster problems.

     Remember you are not fulfilling your complete duty towards aged parents only by providing them food, clothes and daily requirements. You have to serve them, and hear their problems.

     Always try to get blessing of your aged parents by providing them healthy and happy life.

     As joint family custom is existing in India, the aged parents should be treated as chief, and respected persons of the family.

     Never try to disobey them. You may be logically correct in any controversy, but remember, your progress will never retarded by obeying and satisfying the will of the sound minded aged parents.

2. COLLEAGUES, SENIORS, TEACHERS AND PROFESSIONAL COMPETITORS

     The colleagues should be considered like brothers and friends irrespective of ranking. Never try to demoralize or criticise your colleagues in term of their knowledge, skill and behaviour.

     Advice may be given to only those who listen to you or welcome your talks. Willy nilly giving the advice, will become reason of your criticism.

     Never forget those seniors or teachers or your well-wisher who have extended their cooperation in the achievement of your goals or in other forms. Be loyal to them.

     There should be no hesitation in welcoming the parents, teachers, well-wishers, elder family members, person in power and officers even in your clinic or office on duty. Pay them due regards sincerely, have pardon if you are busy in your patients after spending a few minutes with them.

     Never hesitate to offer the regards to teachers or seniors in the presence of peoples known or unknown to you in whatever situation or position they meet you at any place or time. Remember, respect to teachers and seniors always enhance your progress and high reputation in the society.

     Do not take too many risks in patient dealing or in surgical procedure. This will project you as not having sufficient experience or intelligence. Consult literature, take advice from seniors, colleagues or teachers, collect informations, that will subsequently reduce the risk.

     There is no short cut straight forward path in gaining knowledge in skill or profession frame. Discuss and collect the experience to do all, that is required in natural and simple way.

     Misrepresentation will ultimately harm you more instead of gain.

     Do not get disappointed or feel discouraged when you fail to treat or manage a patient in a correct manner, you will be more wiser and have better knowledge by these initial failures. Try to learn from these mistakes too.

     You may not be an exceptionally intelligent man, but do not let this thought deter you form attempting to do exceptional work.

     Be well informed about your professional competitors activities on all matters relevant to your profession.

     In a gathering of your colleagues, teacher and seniors, always speak freely. Share your knowledge and experience to a level of informative and helpful. Always take care, not to reveal anything that can harm you in future.

     Do not only listen. Participate in discussion otherwise other mature and experienced persons will hide their knowledge and will not cooperate with you.

     Do not comment on personal life style, habits, nature, status, marital relation, wisdom etc. of your colleagues, teachers or else persons, unless you are very close to him.

     If it is unavoidable to comment, take extreme care so that you will be out of controversy.

     It is not work, but worry that kills. A doctor should not worry in case of failure or unsuccessful dealing with patients or in surgery or in other works.

     The industriosity and sincerety will ultimately bring you at brink of prosperity in future to come.

3. FAMILY PLANNING AND FAMILY WELFARE

     Make afford to change the people's odd beliefs such as "more children will bring greater prosperity and preferring boys to girls." New concepts of honouring birth only one or two children and treating male and female babies at par should be advocated.

     If you have limited children you can ask others to follow your advice and model of family more effectively.
