V. MEDICAL PROFESSION, LANGUAGE AND OTHER SUBJECTS

1. LANGUAGE AND MEDICAL PROFESSION

Always speak simply and try to speak in language of the patient or of the man to whom you talk. If you speak the regional language where you work, the local people will consider you as their own. It hardly matters that you have no command fully on that language. To speak in a language which you like or your favourite indicates lack of common sense.

Do not under estimate your efficiency if you do not know or you have no command over a particular language e.g., English. Your sincerity and loyalty will compensate every thing. There should be no hesitation in speaking that language without proper flow and pronunciation, but that must be explanatory.

However, medium of language of higher education and of medical education should be preferably a common i.e., English rather than Hindi or other regional language.

Undue fanaticism in enforcing regional language as a medium of instruction is likely to arrest the progress of a trained doctor. He may not be able to express or expose himself before an international society. Thus, debar him in imparting specialised and advanced knowledge.

2. EARNING MONEY & MEDICAL PROFESSION

Do not earn money without earning goodwill and fair image. Always try to save more than fifty percent of what you earn, most of the saving should be invested in deposits to minimize the income tax or should be invested in some other side-business or trade so that you have not to run after the money in your medical profession.

Utilization of your extra money in side business with faithful friends will improve your status and will be helpful to the poor who work as labour in the business.

Money earned through interest will not give you experience of extra professional activity and may retard your progress.

Do not be greedy. Greed spoils the value of wisdom and experience.

Sometimes you may not earn as much as you deserve, especially if you are in area in which there is lack of natural resources, poor people, inadequate industrialization, adverse political, social and family situations.

Never expect sudden gain of wealth without any effort, otherwise it will disrupt your normal progress.

Charity or donation (alms giving) is the root of religion, but before giving charity, first see to your home (capacity), requirement of relations and your nearest and dearest.

'Dan' charity always gives fame but fame gained through money may crate jealousy and thus this will create hindrances in social, professional and bussiness relationships. So give donation only to such an extent and in such a manner as will not recreate problem in majority or to your well wisher.

Dan (donation) can be of blood or eyes (cornea) or of body organs etc., but money donation has its own importance, because it can be utilized on several occasions.
