Intro Gameplay Email C64 LS Game Manual Other versions Play it now! Laser Squad Revived!

Other Versions:

There were many ports of the original game, in fact, the game was originally made for the Spectrum Computer (a popular home computer in Europe invented in the UK). Laser Squad was based on another Julian Gollop Spectrum game-- Reblestar.

However, here in the states, the most popular version was on the Commodore 64-- the computer for everyman. The original version of LS was created for the following systems:

Sinclair Spectrum, Amtrad CPC, Commodore 64, Commodore Amiga, Atari ST, and IBM PC

You can get the IBM PC version at www.theunderdogs.org . I profiled the C64 version instead because even though the PC version has updated graphics, sound, and interface, it is for DOS and DOS is rapidly becoming a memory. The VICE emulator is robust and versatile-- allowing the greatest number of people to enjoy the original game on current machines. VICE runs on Unix, MS-DOS, Win95/NT, OS/2, Acorn RISC OS or BeOS machine. The missions are the same on both the C64 and IBM PC versions. In fact, they are the same missions on all versions.

All that aside, once you've enjoyed the original game, support the developers by purchasing the latest version: Laser Squad Nemesis!!!!!!!!!!

Other Julian Gollop Games:

Time Lords (1983, BBCB, Redshift)

Islandia (1984, BBCB, Redshift)

Nebula (1984, Spectrum, Redshift)

Rebelstar Raiders (1984, Spectrum, Redshift)

Chaos (1984, Spectrum, Games Workshop)

Rebelstar (1986, Spectrum, Firebird)

Rebelstar II (1988, Spectrum, Silverbird)

Laser Squad (1988, Spectrum, Blade) also did C64 port Lords of Chaos, with Nick Gollop (1990, Spectrum, Blade)

X-Com: UFO Defense, with Nick Gollop (1994, PC, Microprose)

X-Com: Apocalypse (1997, PC, Microprose)

Magic & Mayhem, with Ian Terry (1998, PC, Virgin)

(Microprose has dropped the ball with the X-Com Franchise, and my guess is that that is in part why Laser Squad has been revived-- frustration with the publisher...along with demand for a similar game. More recent games like "X-Com: Interceptor" "X-Com: Enforcer" have ventured away from the original idea of a squad-based strategic game. X-Com Email was not promoted properly and is now "offline".)
