The Arch Angels have a long
and bloody history that dates back to the Second Founding. One of
the many progeny Chapters that came from the Ultra Marine Legions,
the Arch Angels
are every bit as loyal and faithful to the Imperial cause as their
brother Ultra Marines are.
Shortly after the Horus Heresy,
a small detachment of Arch Angel vessels engaged and destroyed a
chaos fleet in the southeastern fringe of the Segmentum Tempestus.
One of the traitor vessels detonated while trying to flee into warp-space.
The resulting explosion caused a massive warp-rift to appear. Calling
it the Ultima Tormentius after the tortured souls that perished
during it's creation, the Arch Angels vowed to protect the area
around the Ultima Tormentius from any and all chaos incursions.
Establishing a Fortress-Monastery on
the world of Draconus, the Arch Angels patrol a vast sea of space
near the Ultima Tormentius known as Avalon.
Much like the Ultramar, the realm of
the Ultra Marines, Avalon is a shining example of efficiency, beauty
and production. All of the Arch Angels battle-brothers are recruited
from worlds in the Avalon Systems.
The Arch Angels were one of those Chapters
honored enough to be chosen to provide troops for the Deathwatch.
The Ninth Company of the Chapter, in its entirety, is provided to
the Deathwatch for it's Xenos-Kill Teams.
Many units of the Arch Angels Chapter also volunteer themselves
to be experimented upon and given advanced combat drugs to try to
boost their combat effectiveness. The Inquisition fears that someday,
there may arise a need for brother-marine to fight against brother-marine
as was done during the Horus Heresy. One such Chapter that is watched
with uneasiness are the Blood Angels. The Inquisition's experiments
hope to simulate the combat prowess and ferocity of the Blood Angels
in "pure" marines so that they may fight against the Blood Angels
and their kin with equal footing.
Recent campaigns of note that the Arch
Angels have fought in are: The Second and Third Wars for Armageddon,
The Piscina Conflict, The Adrantis 5 Campaign and many smaller skirmishes
too numerous to list.
