This page tells you what kind of shells your hermit crabs will wear. Hermit crab wear the conch-like shells. The shell must have a pretty big opening. It can't have a narrow one. C. Compressus / Ecuardoians - Es like shells with D-shaped openings. Some examples of shells with D-shaped openings are: Natica tigrina, Natica lineata, Turbo petholatus, Whales Eye, Cassis vibex, Bursa rana, nerite, nerita scabricosta, T. tuberosa, T. mutabilis, Striped/Calf moon shell Purple Pincher / C. clypeatus Clypeatus like shells with circular openings. An example of a shell with a circular opening is a turbo. Straws / C. Perlatus - Straws like turbos and frogs. These are the ones with circular openings. C. Cavipes / Cavs - Cavs like Babylonia, Aerolata, Land snail shells that are long and cone shaped, cancellaria shells. All of the rest aren't specific. The perfect-fitting shell will have an opening about the size of the large claw plus about 1/8" all around (for larger crabs it will be more) or 1/10" all around.
