| A SINGLEMINDED GOD We serve a single-minded God. God, with the same power and might that he said, "Let there be light", can transforms His people, delicately and personally, making them single minded and sincere people of God. God's single purpose is to save you from sin and transform you into his image. When you say that amazing grace saved a wretch like me, you are not saying that you felt a shake and a quiver, but that the God, who raises the dead, is in control of your life. His grace keeps you trusting, looking, believing, forgiving and persevering. The power of God's grace can change every situation and circumstance. It can strengthen and encourage the downcast and depressed. God's power and grace can lift all heavy burdens and give strength to the weak, and healing for the sick. STEPS TO SINGLEMINDEDNESS Singleness of heart refers to a mental disposition, an attitude that renders obedience, out of sincerity, not hypocrisy. Singleness of heart or sincere disposition excludes eye service, that is duty performed only when someone is watching. It means doing the will of God from the heart. Singleness of heart means that there is instinctive and instantaneous recoil from all that is polluted and from anything that has adhering to it the filth of sin. We must set aside every sin or whatever things that hold us back from being what God wants us to be. He wants us to be as he is. God is holy, he is always Holy, Holy, Holy. In God there can be no compromise with sin. Although God is a loving and forgiving God, he condones no sin. STEP #1 - FIND CONTENTMENT IN GOD As a Christian, single or married you are called to contentment, to fulfillment that comes only through your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, not through whether you are single or married. As a Christian Single, you must learn to live a fulfilled life with, what at the present, appears to be unfulfilled desires. Proverbs 3:5,6 states "Delight thyself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart." Looking across the fence, one would think that married people are luckier than single people. Thoughts go through the mind such as, "They are so lucky because of what they have. They have somebody to love them". As a single Christian, don't allow the fact that you don't have a mate, deter you from God purpose and plan for your life. There is contentment in God for you. Philippians 4:1: Not that I speak from want for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstance I am in. 1 Corinthians 7:7-8: I wish that all men were even as I myself am. However, each man has his own gift from God, one in this manner (being married) and another in that manner (being single). Vs. 8 and therefore, I say to the unmarried and to widows that it is good for them if they remain even as I (vs. 9) But if they cannot contain, let them married for it is better to marry than to burn. The Apostle Paul didn't view himself as disadvantaged, as needing or wanting anything. Paul had gotten to the place in his life that he really could be contented as a single man. He understood that changing his circumstances wouldn't make him a better, happier, or more fulfilled person. He had worked through the false belief that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. As a single person, the good news is that you can live life in Christ to the fullest right now. You are not in limbo. You are not incomplete. You don't have to wait for marriage before life can really begin. God has given you the power and ability to express the same Christ confidence as the apostle Paul, who said as a single man, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philipians 4:13). STEP #2 - FIND YOUR PURPOSE Romans 8:28: All things work together for the good of those that love the Lord and are called according to his purposes. Philipians 1:21: For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain. Paul knew that his life consisted of serving and glorifying God. Apart from this, his life had neither meaning nor purpose. As Christian we must realize that our purpose in this life is to serve and glory God. That purpose can only be found though our relationship with Jesus Christ. God has a purpose for each and every one of his children, whether you are married or single. Paul point here is that the marital status you have right now, whether you are single or married, is a gift from God. Don't be in a hurry to get married. Find your purpose in God in your singleness. 1 Corinthians 7:34 state that the unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. The married woman cares for the things of the world how she might please her husband. Paul is not saying that married people are less spiritual than single people, but that single life has fewer distractions by worldly cares. A single woman has more freedom to do a work for the lord. Even with children, her responsibilities are different. She has one less person to concern herself with. The bible said that two shall become one flesh, they shall cleave together. |

| (purpose continued) A married woman's actions have to be based upon the opinion and thought of another individual. You are your own person, relax and enjoy this freedom that you have right now. STEP #3 - SEEK GOD The single woman should consider herself married to Christ; she is the Bride of Christ. Therefore, a single person's is seeking how to please Christ as the married woman seeks to please her husband. Mathew 6:33: Seek ye first the kingdom of god and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. 1 Corinthians 7:20: Paul states " let each man remain with God in that condition in which he was called, and not just remain, but abound in that condition, excel in it. While you are single seek God and ask him what he wants to do with you in your single state. Seek his will, peace, contentment, faith, trust, seek God for ministry. Step 3 continued Singleness is a time to cultivate you as a person. It is time for you to grow strong in Christ and your Christian faith. It is a time for you to get yourself together spiritually and mentally, get your finances in order, get healthy and in physical shape. It is a time for you to become one in Christ. It is a time for you to get rid of drama, issues, insecurities that hinder you.Fears, frustrations, it is a time for you to become totally free in Christ. If a mate is in Gods plan for you, you will be equipping yourself cleave as one flesh with your mate. However, if you never get married, you can become whole, complete and live a victorious life in Christ as a single person. Above all else, trust God with your life. Proverbs 3:5 and 6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight." STEP #4 REJECT DOUBLEMINDEDNESS James 1:5: If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God that gives to all men liberally and upbraids not and it shall be given him. Vs. 6: But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. Vs. 7: for let that man think that he shall receive anything form the Lord. Vs. 8: A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. They are wishy washy, don't know what they want to do, what they believe. They are tossed back and forth like a raging sea. They allow doubt, fears and frustrations to hinder their faith and trust in God. An extraordinary example of a double-minded man is King David. He wrote many of the Psalms yet he failed to be single minded several times. He took his focus from God and placed it upon himself and his desires. One among many, he took another man's wife and had him killed trying to hid his sin. God called David the Apple of his eye. Even though David had failures, he had enough sense to get it right by going to God. God has the power to take you from a situation of failure to a higher place in him. Phillipians 3:14: I press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. The Apostle Paul is our greatest example for single-mindedness. He was single minded from the Damascus Road onwards. His mind was focused towards God. His life, his being was to glorify and do the work of the Lord. After his conversion, Paul used that same diligence and zeal that he used to destroy, to serve God. After his salvation experience, he pressed toward the mark of the higher calling. STEP #5 - SERVE GOD, NOT MEN The Christian calling is to live it with a single-mindedness, single focused purpose for God. You are examples for Christ not just in church, but everywhere with all men. How sincere is your witness and conviction for the Lord outside of the church walls? Your light is the shine at all times that men will see your goods works so that God may be glorified. God puts us in places where our single-mindedness and sincerity is tested. It is easy for us to say that we are Christians when we are surrounded by other Christians. But, how do you do in you day to day living? The Apostle Peter in failed his test of sincerely. He failed the test in John 18:17: Then saith the damsel that keep the door, unto Peter, art not thou one of this man's disciples, He said, I am not. The question came to Peter. Do you belong to Jesus? Arent you one of the followers of Christ? Peter failed the test. It was hard for him under persecution to confess Christ. However he was a good Christian around the other disciples. It was easy for him to express his love for God around other people that loved him too. Like Peter, we are also tested. It may be in the work, at lunch at play. It may be at school, in a classroom, at the shopping mall or supermarket. It may be at home with members of your own family. As Christians we are tested by God again and again. When you are tested, how do you respond? Are you going to continue to walk along the narrow path, to resist the devil, to overcome the world, to say no to sin, to love God with all your heart, in other words be single-minded or are you going to be double minded and fall away? Why halt between two opinions. Choose ye this day whom you will serve. If God is God serve God, if Satan is God, serve Satan. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. |
