DON'T MESS WITH MY DRESS!!

This section is probably the hardest section to write and may be the hardest section for you, Christian woman, to accept.  Everybody will accept instructions on a few behavioral modifications, but it seems as if we are living in a day where no one wants to be told what to wear.  Wait, hear me out.  Granted, we dont have to dress the way that our foremothers dressed, but I believe that there are guidelines within the word of God pertaining to how Christian women, single or married, should dress.  The problem is so prevasive in the church, that the Holy Spirit has lead me to do a section on the problems and issues involved.   You may or may not agree with everything that is said, but keep an open mind and allow the Holy Spirit to minister to you personally.

1Timothy 2:9-10: Likewise women are to adorn themselves with proper clothing modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments.  Vs. 10 But rather by means of good works befits women making a claim to godliness.

What shall I wear?  Is a question many people ask nearly every morning as they dress for work, to relax, or play.  They usually weigh such issues as fashion versus form, style versus substance.  With Christian women, there are other issues that should be considered as well.  Is it modest, is it proper for those professing godliness?

The problem or challenge is the fact that what constitutes modesty is constantly changing.  At one time, it was immodest for a woman to expose her ankles.  What we consider modest apparel today, would have been considered scantless in times passed. However, the question still remains, what shall I wear?

As a Christian woman of God, there needs to be a line where it is considered not modest.  Can you agree that a line must be drawn somewhere.  Today, there is a thin line between modest or inmodest, godly and ungodly.  The way Christians are dressing for the sake of "rights and doing my own thing, It is very scarry to me. Should a Christian woman wear short-shorts, mini-skirts, low cut blouses, tight skirts, tight jeans and pants or tight form fitting dresses?

I do not propose some easy answers, or simple guidelines, such as telling you what to wear or how to dress.  Rather I encourage prayerful consideration of what the bible has to say, which provides basic principles that can help one discern between good and evil.

Let's consider the following principles: Taking the main thoughts of 1 Timothy 2:9-10, it reads, Likewise women are to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, as befits women making a claim to godliness.   The word moderation denotes soundness of mind.  It is that habitual inner self-government, with its constant rein on all the passion and desires of an individual.  In this instance, modestly would hinder the temptation to dress provocative.

Romans 13:13-14:  let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealously, vs. 14, but put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts. Christian woman, do not provide  opportunity for the lust of the flesh!

Again, the word moderation denotes soundness of mind.  Can we agree, from a chrisitan perspective,  that it appears that the world had lost its mind?  In this day that we live in, it appears that everything is geared towards gratification of the flesh. Look at me, I am fine, sexy,  and desirable.

Moderation has been thrown out the windows and people are indulging in excess.  If you look at television, movies, commercials, music of today, the mindset of the world is clearly seen.
It is sad to say, however, the mindset is very prevalent in the church. The church of Jesus Christ has let her guard down.  As Christians, we are in the world but not a part of the worlds ideas of decadence and wickedness.

As Christians we must not forget the word of God that states come out from among then and be separate, said the Lord.  Separate yourself from ungodly dressing, thoughts  and the ways of the world.

Romans 12: 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

You may say, that the way that you dress has no bearing on your Christian walk.  I beg to differ.  Actually, the problem goes beyond the outer dress.  It is an indication of the condition of the heart and spirit. Think about it, who are you glorifying, God or your flesh.     You know the effect that sexy body has, those gorgeous hips and sexy legs have on the opposite sex.  Your flesh loves the attention.  God made you beautiful, but it is not his will that you flaunt yourself to entice and seduce men.   If the clothing you wear encourages the arousal of fleshly lust, your own, or otherwise, then you have clearly cross the line.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Christians dressing to look their best, God want you to look beautiful.  However, you must keep in mind that your body dont belong to you anymore, it belongs to God and you cant put anything on it.

1 Corinthians 6:19, 20: What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God and ye are not your own?  Vs 20 For ye are bought with a price, therefore glorify God in you body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Allow the Holy Spirit within you to teach you to be holy in your conversation as well as how you present yourself through the way you dress.  I am sure that you have heard of the expression dress to impress. As Christian women of God and holiness, let's dress to impress God.
