Hi Jeff
After the CNN interviewed I visited your Web Site and obviously, found out about the whole argue around kyle's name.
Being a Web Designer/Publisher myself I support you and the way you're handling the subject. These people, corporate brawls who think they can treat people anyway they like, don't even deserve your (or Simon) responds if you ask me.
If I were in your shoes I would send a letter to them stating that the name will be handled over (it is true that it is Kyle's right to own his name) as soon as they send you a check for the following:
1)Reimbursement for what you originnaly payed for the domain name
2)The hosting expense while it was online
3)Whatever hours Simon has been working on the issue (caused by them)
4)Your 50 hours of work based on your hour/rate
Now, I would tell them that you will only accept the money if a BIGGGG apology is made to you, Simon and Kyle itself. I mean, I'm sure Kyle knows that these people are after an opportunity to make money.
If they don't agree I would make contact with Kyle directly and hand over the name to only him and not the company. I would make sure Kyle understand the importance to be THE ONLY owner of his domain name (now and for the future) to make sure they don't fool or exploit him at the end when they get the opportunity to show their dirty claws.
At the end you could win both ways. Getting the money you deserve for the job you've done (if they agree to pay); or making sure they don't get the opportunity to be the owners (and money makers) of Kyle's name which is the
intention behind it. That I'm sure will be the best and rightfully "vengeance".
They will remember you forever everytime they see the page.
This is just the opinion of a colleague if it could be of any help to you.
Best regards,
.:Glenn
