SPHA-T WALKER Type: Self Propelled Heavy Artillery - Turbolaser walker Manufacturer: Rothana Heavy Engineering Affiliation: Galactic Republic Weapons: Heavy turbolaser cannon, 12 antipersonnel blaster cannons Length: 30 meters Crew: 15 command crew, 10 gunners Debut: Attack of the Clones One of the most powerful vehicles in the Clone Army's considerable arsenal, the SPHA-T walker was responsible for downing immense Trade Federation Core Ships during the Battle of Geonosis. As with most of the Clone Army's vehicles, the SPHA-T walker was developed by Rothana Heavy Engineering. As it was given such a clunky name, the SPHA-T has garnered numerous nicknames, from 'Mobile Assault Cannon' to 'Bug Gun'. Whatever the name, the SPHA-T certainly was powerful. The heavy turbolaser cannon atop the walker could deliver a continuous stream of energy into a target, while the blaster cannons warded off ground troops. When several SPHA-T walkers worked in unison, the enemy didn't stand a chance. However, this power came at a cost. The energy needed to power the turbolaser was massive, so a large reactor core was needed, as well as a large crew to operate. Also, the turbolaser could only be charged to a certain level, so when depleted, charged SPHA-Ts from the rear line had to be brought in. Still, the SPHA-T proved highly useful during the first battle of the Clone Wars, in which one hundred walkers were deployed to send escaping Confederate transports crashing to the ground. The SPHA-Ts were deployed in squads of four, usually behind AT-TE divisions. The assault cannons were particularly effective under Master Yoda's command. |
