An intimitading sight on the battlefield, the Republic ground assault walker was designed to provide heavy fire, all terrain transportation and a powerful ally in the Republic Army.
    The AT-TE was created by
Rothana Heavy Engineering to mimic a deadly artic beast on the company's homeworld, though the Republic walker has the added bonus of firepower. As well as six laser turrets mounted fore and aft, a clonetrooper could sit in the turret atop the vehicle to provide heavy fire against larger targets. The AT-TE was also an effective means of transportation. Up to thirty clonetroopers or support personnel could travel in the walker, and the vehicle's all terrain traction meant it could deliver its passengers practically anywhere. As powerful as it was, however, the AT-TE was not without its faults. Being so low to the ground meant it could easily be destroyed by landmines, and the gunnery range was compromised. Future all terrain walkers, such as the Heavy Enforcer and Imperial AT-AT would solve this problem.
Nevertheless, the AT-TE was deployed effectively in many battles of the
Clone Wars. Because it was not too large, the vehicle could be airlifted into action by cargo gunships, before unloading its considerable firepower into the heart of an enemy installation. Because of this sucess, the line of all terrain walkers continued even into the Imperial era, with the infamous AT-AT, AT-ST and AT-PT walkers.
