Road to Sakardzha Chalet, Sredna Gora
SREDNA GORA MOUNTAINS, BULGARIA

More like a range of hills covered with forests, rather than a real mountain. Easily reachable by bus and train from many towns and villages in Southern Bulgaria. Some of the secondary trails are poorly marked, especially in areas used for timber.

Sheep on the road from the village of Chavdar to Sakardzha chalet, Sredna Gora, Bulgaria Pissing on top of Bogdan Peak, Sredna Gora, Bulgaria

Suggested trail:

From the town of Koprivshtitza (on the Sofia - Karlovo - Bourgas trainline) to the Bogdan chalet and then to the tree-covered Bogdan peak (1604 m), which is the highest in Sredna Gora. Allow a weekend for that route. There are Bulgarian Renaissance buildings and tons of taverns in Koprivshtitza.
