FAQ

Sports still continues to be a favourite recreation of mine because it teaches you to know the concept of spirit, winning or losing is not important but how you play is. Plus it is fun, beneficial to your health and helps you physically and mentally. Athletes inspire people to do well, compete and learn from their mistakes.

Soccer

Soccer would be the top choice as my best sport because I played it during childhood. Defense is the position I favour since it was easy to support the midfielders up front. Man marking is vital in the game and it is crucial to pinpoint the opponents' weakness. Generally, I think I am good out of position since I tend to chase opponents to the limit. Continuing to work on different techniques fascinated me. Formation would be a key element in succeeding as well as understanding your teammates. Being able to master various areas of skill was not an easy to handle and accomplish.

[The Italian Team Squad getting ready for the real game]
[Romario & Rivaldo enjoy their victory in the soccer field] I had problems in controlling at first, either the ball goes too far off my foot or I kicked it somewhere else. Doing tricks seemed impossible in the beginning but now I could manipulate a few to amaze you. Training constantly boosts my overall stamina and skill. The most important factor though is courage, play up to your abilities. Back in Thailand, soccer was very popular and playing it everyday with friends was a daily routine. People there talk a lot about the league results. Many of my classmates check updates constantly to see how their favourite club progresses throughout the season.
Brazil continues to be my favourite team and I like to support them as well as Italy and England. Can't miss any World Cups or I will terribly regret. Big events like this are worth watching, no matter if it's midnight or early in the morning. My role model would be Ronaldo because he plays smart and he's talented. In childhood, the playing style of professionals running fast as a cheetah used to inspire me to become a soccer player in the future. Dreams I had with the crowd cheering on my name like the sound of enraged warriors eager for victory still continues. [English soccer team members celebrate after a goal]

Basketball

Basketball requires extreme patience when you are a beginner, especially when I was new to the US. At first I was an outcast, people laughed because I missed shots and couldn't dribble. The hoop was a curse and my basic skills were horrible when I was 12 or 13. However, after several tries, I gradually learned it by myself over time without a teacher. Now is when it really comes down, success was flowing by. Despite my improvement, I am not proficient on basketball as much as soccer. Man marking was something I mastered from the start, as I could guard well. Good shooting came by shortly throughout patience and concentration, which made aiming easy.

[Kobe Bryant taking a lay-up during the game]
[Shaquille O'Neal trying to block a shot from an opponent] Many talented competitors are everywhere, my technique was to use speed to beat the toughest of opponents. Accuracy would be a key component to triumph in basketball as well as having ball control. The game phase goes fast and like soccer, teamwork is crucial. People who saw my progress suggested that I would make a successful point guard since I am good at stealing. Later I discovered that my stamina and endurance level had been suprisingly augmented throughout training. Doing lay ups would be the key element of victory, if you want to score for two points with the slightest chance of mistake. Three pointers on the contrary require a lot more skill.
New experience for me, basketball taught me that there's more than soccer in the world. However, I never dreamt of entering the NBA. Believe it or not, I rarely watch basketball but I favour playing it. My heart now judges every game equal, it only depends on a person's passion and how much they devote time to their favourite sport. At times I had victories and upsets but you learn from the game. Every sport has a moral, which would be to congratulate yourself if you earned victories but if you didn't perform well, learn from the previous mistakes and turn your weaknesses to strength. Tennis

Tennis is the sport I have learned during summer 2003. Most people assume that it's like badminton with the exception of more running. First time on my tennis court was something special, my friend complimented me that I was the best beginner he played with (not boasting). I appreciated the comment and continued to work on my forehand. Finding the correct location for the ball to land was an arduous task as a novice. Too much power the ball just goes off court. The hardest move was the backhand, it requires coordination and accuracy. Low shots were difficult to get since they are fast and unexpected.

[Pete Sampras smashes with the backhand]
[Andre Agassi diving for the ball] Unlike soccer and basketball, tennis is an individual sport and requires skill more than anything. When the score was "DEUCE" I doubted whether or not I could win the game. I think reflexes and coordination are the key element to succeed and do well in tennis. Strange, soccer the only sport I watch but I know famous tennis players like Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras, the French Open and US Championships are big events I look forward to see since I am developing a new interest on this type of sport. In contrast to badminton, tennis is more fun and challenging but for those badminton fans it might be a different answer.
