The Band
Colombian Caribbean music comes from the crossing of three cultures: black African, native Indian and white European.
the black culture brought the rhythm structure and percussion
the native Indian culture brought the flutes (gaita) and through them the melody line
the white culture brought the Spanish language for the lyrics and the dancers' costumes

Cumbia - is a very rhythmic music, typical of carnival

Porro / Gaita / Puya - these rhythms present similarities with cumbia.  The differences are marked by the speed of the music and the varied executions of the gaita and the tambor alegre.

Mapale - this is the fastest rhythm and the most erotic.  It is also the music that has the most African influence.  It is played only with percussion and vocals.
