The coastal music is said to "captivate a variety of influences, while being at the same time Colombian" (Peter Wade). It defines Colombian's national identity by demonstrating Colombia's diversity: it unites African and native Indian styles, the rich and the poor, the black and the white. The musicians are themselves a sample of this variety.
With a strong revival of Colombian folklore all around the world, confirmed by Carlos Vives winning a Grammy for his album and Toto La Momposina following her international tour, kOgUI sees opportunities. Playing traditional instruments, they aim to introduce their audiences to the full range of Afro-Colombian music. Through its music, kOgUI brings happiness, joy and unity.
kOgUI is a very energetic band playing traditional music from the Caribbean coast of Colombia, South America. They perform internationally. The music is mainly carnival and popular party music, and combines African instrumentation, Indigenous melody and costumes of Spanish styling.
