The traditional ensemble is formed by the following instruments:-
Tambora: double-headed "bombo drum" played with sticks.  It marks the bass tones.
Tambor alegre: medium size drum, which brings the leading rhythm line, as well as the rhythm variations -important for improvisation.  It is held between the legs and played with both hands.
Tambor llamador: small size drum, which responds to the tambor alegre by playing the off beat rhythm.  It can be played on one knee with one hand.
Maracas: hand-held shakers of Indigenous origin, made from gourds filled with seeds or small river stones. They are played in pairs.
Guache: metal cylinder filled with seeds or small river stones.
Gaita: long vertical native Indian flute, with a head made of beeswax, vegetal coal and a duck feather for the mouthpiece.  With five finger holes, it is used for the melody.
