The beginning

The history of the picturesque surrounding historically known as Klov, where Klovskiy Lyceum is situated dates back to the time when there was here a rough, babbling brook flowing down the steep hill to join the brimming river Lybid. 

It’s been a long time since the Klovskiy cloister laid by abbot Stephan as far back as the XI century had been here. But there is a special force and grace here for sure. For more than hundred years kernels of wisdom and enlightenment develop from here: on October 1, 1900 a two-year initial school for “Arsenal” workers’ children was opened here. Since the year 1937 is had been a secondary school No. 77 up to 1992 when it got the name Klovskiy Lyceum No. 77.

Klovskiy Lyceum #77 is situated in the central part of the Kyiv city, the Pechersk District which is one of the oldest and most picturesque capital's districts. The Pechersk District has its own history which is interesting, rich and enchanting...

 

Historical inquiry of the Pechersk district of Kyiv

The history of Kyiv goes back to the year 482.  This town used to be the first capital of Kyiv Rus, a powerful state in the 10-13th  centuries. When this great capital, Kyiv, was building up Pechersk was founded. As an aldermanry of Pechersk was founded in 1921.

For a long time has Pechersk been a great city center and it is still an important commercial, political and cultural center not only of Kyiv, but of all Ukraine as a Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma once said.

Today the territory of the district counts 27 sq. km. with the population of more than 126 thousand dwellers.

Here there are more than 30 different industries and businesses, 28 scientific research institutes and design institutes, 4 institutes, 8 vocational schools, 2 sport schools, 1 evening school, 30 infant schools, 4 municipal hospitals and a military hospital, 5 out-patients' clinics, 193 public service institutions.

The Pechersk District is rich in cultural establishments. There is a Ukrainian House, the Children and Youth Palace, 9 State museums, 21 libraries, 7 cultural houses and palaces, 2 theatres and 3 theatre-studious, 4 playhouses, Central Park of Culture and Rest, Dynamo Stadium, the National Philharmonic Society, International Cultural and Art Center, Children’s Painting Gallery and 3 musical schools for children.

There is a merry Pechersk Holiday celebrated every two years.

A famous Mariinsky Palace, which is an official residence of the President of Ukraine and where the most significant official receptios take place, is also situated in Pechersk together with the building of Ukrainian parliament, the Supreme Rada, the Cabinet of Ministers, the General Office of Public Prosecutor, the Supreme Court, the National Bank. In the Pechersk District there are 19 embassies and councils of various countries.

In year 1051 the Orthodox Cloister was founded, today it is known as the Cave Cloister. The word “cave” is Pechera (Pechersk) in Ukrainian. There is an active monastery, academy and theological seminary on the territory of the Kyiv Cloister. This sacred place of the Orthodoxy is open to all its visitors who come here from all over the world to enjoy the grandeur of its Golden domes. In the Monastery there is the world famous Treasure Museum, where you can see a unique collection of tiny works of art, which can be seen only through the microscope, precious gold ware and other jewelry.

Nowadays the Pecherky Monastery is under the UNESCO protection.

In the economic sense the Pecherk District has great economical and financial potential. More than 21 000 of enterprises are registered in the district, of which 16 thousands are functioning. These form the major (90%) of the district’s budget.

The Pechersk District is also a center for social security. The people have always been of great importance here, and those indigent and of scanty means most of all. The special attention is drawn to children. There are various youth centers organized for the children and youth support.

During several years the Pechersk has established partner relations with several cities. These are the Berlin city district Wilmersdorfvon (Germany),  Goor city (the Netherlands), \ Netania city (Israel).
