Reflections

  1. Why is this standard important?

This standard is, I think, the most important! Increasingly, technology is available, but not being used, or at least not being used to its full potential. This standard strives to make the technology facilitator push schools toward that final step. The idea is to make teachers and administrators realize how technology can be used to improve the curriculum.

To do this involves proving technologies' worth to the skeptics as well as showing the teachers that it isn't so difficult to take advantage of these great tools. A TF has to be able to do the research and PowerPoint shows, as well as implementing instruction for teachers and involving the community.

Without the ability to "prove it", the technology doesn't get used.

  2. Why have you included each artifact or link and how does it show your competence?

I have included the research from my podcasting thesis and the field study for that thesis as the most important artifacts. The point is to prove and show that particular technologies have purpose and are do-able. The earlier research paper (http://writer.zoho.com/public/catnap25/research-paper-11/script) also underlines the importance of technology and goes a long way to proving that it's possible. These show I am competent to show the way for a school district to achieve success with technology, whichever technological tools support their requirements.

The review of the technology plan is important because it shows that I have an idea of what technology is available and can discuss what needs to be done to make that technology more accessible.

The grant process with the middle school is a cooperative group planning process.

  3. How does this artifact demonstrate that you are a competent and effective technology educator?

All of these artifacts center on proving that the technology is truly going to support the school and curriculum. This is important because the community is the school. When considering technology, the technologist must take all players into account. These artifacts show that I can do that.

  4. How might you use this artifact in your future as a technology facilitator or leader?

All school systems need guidance and a group consensus in order to truly use technology well. I would use all of these artifacts as templates to try to make sure the school system understands and uses technology well.

  5. How will you continue to develop you proficiency with this standard?

As with all of these standards, the more planning and practice the Technology Facilitator gets, the more he or she improves and learns. I would make use of these principals and continue to explore the various leadership and community options.

Artifacts:

Artifact 1: To accommodate TF.VIII.A. by doing current research on educational technology, I have included the research from my podcasting thesis. This was followed by field study which resulted in guideline for teachers. The point is to prove and show that particular technologies have purpose and can be easily used. In addition , I have included another research paper which can be found at "http://writer.zoho.com/public/catnap25/research-paper-11/script" This research paper discusses importance of technology in student education. These show I am competent to because I research the technology I want to use to get buy-in from all interested parties.

Artifact 2: To accommodate TF. VIII.B. and D. I reviewed the technology plan to get a good idea of the change process and the history of technology at the schools in question. I then wrote a review of the tech plan changeswhich is available on zoho writer at http://writer.zoho.com/public/catnap25/kj-Tech-reviewt1/script

Artifact 3: To accommodate TF. VIII. D. I worked with the middles school to propose a grant. This grant process is a cooperative group planning process. I have removed the school names but have the grant proposalavailable on zoho writer at http://writer.zoho.com/public/catnap25/mid-school-grant1/script
