Reflections
- Why is this standard important?
It is important for technical facilitators to assess and use tools to
increase their productivity, and to show colleagues those tools so that their
teaching is more productive as well. Communication with the community is also
important because often it is the community that spurs the school on to better
technology use. After my podcasting news team, our elementary school decided
it would be great to have a school newspaper which is created using desktop
publishing. The community saw what could be done, the other teachers saw what
could be done, and they had their own ideas and got the newspaper
communication going long term. Having teachers pick up where the facilitator
leaves off is so important. The technology should be used well, to make
things more productive and to communicate.
- Why have you included each artifact or link and how will you use them in the future?
I used the on-line office review as an artifact because it shows that I
can "evaluate" and "reflect" on "professional practice". The review also impacts
standard TF.V.D. in that it can be used systematically for information sharing
and collaboration. This evaluation process made me aware of new resources
that I can use, and knowledge of them that I can pass on to other teachers.
In future I will definitely be using and assessing these products as they
grow and change, and will use them for collaboration and communication with
colleagues and the community.
I included the page set-up PowerPoint because it "models the advanced
features of word processing" to develop professional products. In this case,
I am not only modeling this process, but communicating with the community
through my blog. I will use this type of information in the future to show new
features, such as setting up comprehensive style sheets in word when creating
a document. There are so many ideas to show teachers, and now that I have the
facility to use them, I will. Communication is key.
I included the podcasts because, among other things,
they "support communication between the school and the community.
I will consistently be able to use new techniques (has anyone tried TUMBLR)
to communicate with the community, my colleagues, and to enhance my professional
practice.
- How does this artifact demonstrate that you are a competent and effective technology educator?
These artifacts show that I am willing to continually search for tools that
will make teaching more effective and that I will communicate what I have found
about those tools and do what I can to make it easy for teachers to use these tools.
- How will you continue to develop you proficiency with this standard?
To continue to develop under this standard, I will continue to create and
communicate about new options through my website, blog and through professional sites such as
http://www.tappedin.org. When I am working I will communicate with my colleagues
every day as well, whether I am giving short seminars of showing them one on one
or simply talking after school.
Artifacts:
Artifact 1: To accommodate TF.V.B.,I discuss on-line office products
and their use. This
on-line office sites review will be available
on zoho writer
at http://writer.zoho.com/public/catnap25/online_offices_review1/script
Artifact 2: To accommodate the requirements of TF.V.C.
I have created and published a Power Point to "manipulate preferences" in Microsoft Word
so that teachers documents will have their prefered look and feel. This
page set-up PowerPoint can be
found at the April 29th entry of my blog at
http://kljteach.blogspot.com/
Artifact 3: To accommodate the requirements of TF.V.D. :
I published
the news team podcasting sessions at
http://www.kljerometeach.com/newspage.html. These sessions
communicate with parents and the school community. They not only tell parents
what their children are doing, but give news of the school. After I completed
this project the school decided to have a continuing journalism club using
desk top publishing, so my research did create changes at the school.
