Technical Facilitators Standard II
Planning and Designing Learning Environments and Experiences
- TF-II.A. Design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply
technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.
Candidates:
- Provide resources and feedback to teachers as they create
developmentally appropriate curriculum units that use technology.
- Consult with teachers as they design methods and strategies for teaching
computer/technology concepts and skills within the context of classroom learning.
- Assist teachers as they use technology resources and strategies to support
the diverse needs of learners including adaptive and assistive technologies.
- TF-II.B. Apply current research on teaching and learning with technology
when planning learning environments and experiences. Candidates:
- Assist teachers as they apply current research on teaching and learning
with technology when planning learning environments and experiences
- TF-II.C. Identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for
accuracy and suitability. Candidates:
- Assist teachers as they identify and locate technology resources and
evaluate them for accuracy and suitability based on district and state standards
- Model technology integration using resources that reflect content standards.
- TF-II.D. Plan for the management of technology resources within
the context of learning activities. Candidates:
- Provide teachers with options for the management of technology
resources within the context of learning activities.
- TF-II.E. Plan strategies to manage student learning in
a technology-enhanced environment. Candidates:
- Provide teachers with a variety of strategies to use to manage student learning in a
technology-enhanced environment and support them as they implement the strategies.
- TF-II.F. Identify and apply instructional design principles associated
with the development of technology resources. Candidates:
- Assist teachers as they identify and apply instructional design
principles associated with the development of technology resources.
Reflections
- Why is this standard important?
This goes beyond the original standard TF.I.
Not only does the facilitator have to know how to use technology,
and know how to explain technology, but must also know how to make their knowledge
meet the teacher's needs. With this standard the technologist is asked to
coordinate with the teacher and to design courses using technology to fit the
curriculum the teacher must cover, and to make sure that the technology is
usable by all students. The technologist becomes the teacher's advisor,
listening and giving information on the design of the course and how to manage
student learning with the technology.
- Why have you included each artifact or link?
I included the on-line course because it shows my competence in teaching teachers
and in designing a course.
I included the research list because it shows my competence in helping my
community plan for technology.
I included the accessibility powerpoint because is shows how to get
all students to learn with technology .
- How does this artifact demonstrate that you are a competent and effective technology educator?
One of the things I noticed about this standard is that it makes me take
a step up. I am completely comfortable with technology and with the "how to"
part of technology. When it comes to the nitty gritty of working with teachers
it becomes more difficult for me. I have to do an internal translation from
"straightforward how to" to pedagogical terms, integration into standards,
and building of scaffolding. I have learned through this standard,
to design the lesson steps so that each step brings a greater understanding
without a noticeable leap on the student's part. That way, the depth of
understanding grows without the student realizing it. That is of course design.
That is why I included the on-line course I designed as an artifact.
And both artifacts show that I can build and design information for teachers.
- How might you use this artifact in your future as a technology facilitator or leader?
As a Technical Facilitator, there will be many times when I will have to
teach teachers. These artifacts will serve as a template for those times.
Even though I will be teaching different material, I will have a better idea
of what teachers require since I have already created these two artifacts.
- How will you continue to develop you proficiency with this standard?
To continue to develop under this standard , I will continue to create
tutorials and investigate options that might be usable to support curriculum.
Artifacts:
Artifact 1: To accommodate the requirements of TF.II.A:
I have created and published a power point "to assist teachers in supporting
the diverse needs of students" by improving the accessibility of web pages
so that all students have access. This
powerpoint on accessibility can be found at
"http://show.zoho.com/public/catnap25/Accessibility-ppt"
As this slide show states, accessibility devices have certain requirements
and can translate web pages that are text based. There are certain rules that
need to be used to do this. There are also ways of making the web pages easier
to view, even without an added device.
Artifact 2: To accommodate the requirements of TF.II.B. :
My town is considering a laptop program for the high school, but is having
difficulty getting the funding (Budget didn't pass) because they let it be know
that they were going to cut teachers, training and books in order to buy the
laptops. I decided to create a list of pertinent research to help the people
of my town decide what is important about this program. Once I looked at the
research out there , I realized that the laptop program, even if not perfect,
would be a tremendous asset. I published the
research list at
http://writer.zoho.com/public/catnap25/rdresearch1/script. This is helping
to plan by "Apply(ing) current research on teaching and learning with
technology when planning learning environments and experiences".
Artifact 3: To accommodate the requirements of TF.II.F. to " Identify and apply
instructional design principles associated with the development of technology
resources" I have designed an on line course syllabus for the podcasting class.
This will be available on zoho writer as
on-line course"
