The Five Pearls
of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
History
of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority was organized
on the campus of Howard University by five illustrious and industrious
women: Arizona Cleaver Stemmons, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola
Tyler Goings, Pearl Anna Neal and Fannie Pettie Watts.
The founders sought to establish a new organization based on the ideals
of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood. The sorority is
the sister organization to Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. The two organizations
are the only constitutionally bound brother-sister organizations in the
National Pan Hellenic Council.
Since its inception, the sorority
has grown to more than 100,000 women worldwide. There are more than 500
collegiate and graduate chapters, divided into nine regions in the United
States and Africa. The sorority also has chapters in Nassau, Bahamas; Germany;
and St. Croix. The organization was the first to have chapters in Africa.
