| The Steamrunner has been designed to be an escort vessel for Federation convoys. However they have been seen participating in several battles. |
| History The Steamrunner was one of several classes desinged after first contact with the Borg. It was rushed into construction and was hoped to be available before the Borg's first attack. Unfortunately the Borg attacked sooner then was expected and wasn't done by the famous battle at Wolf 359. The first field test came several years later in 2373 when the Borg attacked once more culminating in the Sector 001 Conflict. The USS Apalacia was among those present at the battle. The field test proved effective and several more Steamrunners were built. They were used as cruiser to supplement the bulky Excelsior and Galaxy class vessels in the Dominion War. They participated in many more battles, most notably the Valley of Death and Advance on Cardassia. |
