My Family
My father, Vincent Richard Brendan McKeown, was born in Belfast,
Northern Ireland, on May 13, 1921. He passed away on August 28, 1962, due to
complications incurred from cardiac valve problems. These problems were caused
by his bouts at a young age with strep throat, St. Vitus dance, and rheumatic
fever. All this was made worse by his insistence to serve with the US Army in
WWII. He volunteered to be the radio man in his training unit, and was shortly
released from service because of a heart attack.
My mother, Mary
Whelan McKeown, was born in New York City on January 3, 1926. Her parents, John
and Veronica Whelan, had come from the town of Shinrone, in Offaly, Ireland. Mom
succumbed to a long fight with breast cancer on November 15, 1997.
I married Susan Wilson on October 17,
1987. Our son, Kevin Michael, was born on August 5, 1988. We sure didn't waste
any time! Here is our wedding picture:
This
is a picture of me and my son in 1989, after I recovered from ileostomy surgery
due to ulcerative colitis. Never knew how I got that, but they said it can be
exacerbated by stress and worry. Now I worry about not worrying. Go figure!
An
important member of our family is Penny. She joined us on Kevin's 8th birthday.
It's not that she thinks she's human, it's more like she thinks that we are dogs
like her!
